Job Overview:
The Biomedical Engineer position is crucial for the successful implementation of the ProAgri and PRSA-TD projects in Chad. This role involves a comprehensive range of responsibilities, including planning, procurement, installation, commissioning, and technical monitoring of scientific and laboratory equipment. The Biomedical Engineer will work closely with beneficiary institutions such as CECOQDA, ITRAD, DPVC, and DSP to ensure that the equipment meets the necessary standards and functions effectively to support health and agricultural initiatives. The engineer will also be expected to provide technical expertise and guidance throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring that all activities align with the strategic objectives of the Government of Chad and UNOPS.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Biomedical Engineer will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to assess the needs for scientific and laboratory equipment.
  • Develop detailed specifications and requirements for the procurement of equipment.
  • Oversee the procurement process, ensuring compliance with UNOPS regulations and standards.
  • Manage the installation and commissioning of equipment at beneficiary institutions.
  • Conduct technical monitoring and evaluation of equipment performance post-installation.
  • Provide training and support to local staff on the operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Prepare reports and documentation related to project activities and equipment performance.
  • Ensure that all project activities are conducted in accordance with health and safety regulations.
  • Liaise with government officials and other stakeholders to facilitate project implementation.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in biomedical engineering or a related field. They should have proven experience in the procurement and management of scientific and laboratory equipment. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams. Familiarity with UNOPS policies and procedures is an advantage, as is experience working in developing countries or in similar project environments.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering, medical technology, or a related field is required. A master's degree or equivalent professional certification is preferred and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role. Continuous professional development in biomedical engineering practices is also highly regarded.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in biomedical engineering, particularly in the procurement, installation, and maintenance of laboratory and scientific equipment. Experience working with international organizations or in a project management capacity is highly desirable. Familiarity with the healthcare sector in Chad or similar contexts will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in French is highly desirable due to the working environment in Chad. Knowledge of local languages may also be beneficial for effective communication with stakeholders.
