Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position within the Budget and Finance Section of the CTBTO offers a unique opportunity for university students and recent graduates to gain practical experience in financial management and reporting. Interns will be involved in various tasks that support the financial operations of the organization, including analyzing invoices, assisting with payment processing, and contributing to financial reporting. This role is designed to provide interns with hands-on experience in a professional environment, allowing them to apply their academic knowledge in real-world scenarios. Interns will work under the supervision of experienced finance professionals, gaining insights into the financial regulations and practices that govern the CTBTO's operations. The internship is structured to enhance the interns' understanding of budgetary processes and financial compliance within an international organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to: analyzing payables in the e-invoices system (Basware), assisting with inquiries and recordkeeping of vendor invoices, travel claims, and other payment requests. They will respond to queries from vendors and staff regarding the processing of payables and assist in resolving any issues that arise. Interns will review payment documents to ensure compliance with the Financial Regulations and Rules, as well as administrative directives, checking against purchase orders and other commitment documents for consistency and accuracy. They will assist with recording bank payments and assessed contributions, and participate in daily bank reconciliations. Additionally, interns will take part in month-end closure activities, providing assistance in reconciliations and reporting to finance colleagues. They will support the preparation of various financial reports and documentation, including financial statements in line with International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) and reporting of assessed or voluntary contributions. Interns may also participate in activities related to the e-invoices system or bank connectivity upgrades, including user testing, and will perform other duties as assigned by their supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates applying for this internship must be at least 18 years old and no older than 35 years old. They should have completed at least two years of full-time study leading to a degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or other relevant fields. Applications may also be accepted from individuals who have completed their bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degrees within the last two years. A good knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential for this position, and enrollment in or completion of a recognized professional accounting qualification program, such as ACCA or CPA, is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes at least two years of full-time study in a relevant field such as business administration, finance, or accounting. Candidates must be pursuing or have completed a degree that is recognized by the CTBTO. The organization only considers academic credentials or degrees obtained from institutions recognized in the IAU/UNESCO list, ensuring that candidates have a solid educational foundation relevant to the internship.

Experience:
While prior work experience is not mandatory for this internship, candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of financial principles and practices. Experience in financial reporting, accounting, or related fields through academic projects or internships will be advantageous. The internship is designed for students and recent graduates, so the focus is on providing practical experience rather than requiring extensive professional experience.

Languages:
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential for this position, as it is the working language of the CTBTO. Knowledge of other official CTBTO languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered desirable and may enhance a candidate's application, particularly in a multicultural work environment.

Internship opportunities at the CTBTO occur throughout the year, and assignments are filled based on the organization's needs. Candidates should be aware that an intern is neither a staff member nor an official of the Commission.
