Job Overview:
The Social Media Assistant will work under the supervision of the Social Media Lead, playing a crucial role in creating engaging content for WFP's Country Office social media accounts. This position involves supporting the coordination and execution of WFP events, assisting in the development and implementation of communications campaigns, and ensuring effective internal communications. The Social Media Assistant will be responsible for maintaining bulletin boards and updating TV screens with relevant content, such as announcements and organizational updates. Additionally, the role includes managing WFP-branded merchandise and visibility items, maintaining an organized inventory, and ensuring compliance with consent requirements for content gathering. The assistant will also support the preparation of advocacy and visibility briefing packages for key events and maintain a contacts database to ensure accurate and timely communication. This position is essential for enhancing WFP's visibility and engagement with the public and stakeholders, contributing to the organization's mission of saving lives and promoting food security.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the creation of engaging social media content, including posts, visuals, and videos for WFP Country Office social media accounts.
  • Assist in the coordination and execution of WFP events, ensuring effective communication and promotion.
  • Help develop and implement communications campaigns, focusing on social media outreach and content creation.
  • Maintain internal communications to ensure effective information flow across the organization, including updating bulletin boards and TV screens with relevant content.
  • Develop and maintain an organized inventory of WFP-branded merchandise and visibility items, ensuring accurate record-keeping and monitoring stock levels.
  • Organize and maintain WFP’s photo and video archive, ensuring materials are accessible and properly labeled.
  • Ensure compliance with consent requirements for content gathering, managing the collection and archiving of consent forms.
  • Support the preparation of advocacy and visibility briefing packages for key events and high-level meetings.
  • Establish and maintain a contacts database, ensuring it is regularly updated with new contacts and changes in roles or organizations. 1
  • Assist with the monthly submission of requested data to the Information Management Inter-Agency Working Group, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and content creation strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in using graphic design tools and video editing software is preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in maintaining inventories and databases.
  • Familiarity with humanitarian issues and the mission of WFP is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in social media management or digital marketing would be beneficial.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 1-2 years of experience in social media management, communications, or a related field. Experience working in a humanitarian or non-profit organization is a plus, as it provides valuable context for the role.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable, given the location of the position. Knowledge of additional languages is a plus and can enhance communication with diverse stakeholders.
