Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Jakarta is part of the global network of UNICs, which operates under the Outreach Division of the Department of Global Communications. The UNICs play a crucial role in disseminating information about the United Nations and its activities to the public, particularly in developing countries. They engage with various stakeholders, including media, educational institutions, governments, and civil society organizations, to promote understanding and support for the UN's mission. UNIC Jakarta specifically focuses on promoting the values and impact of the UN in Indonesia, facilitating communication among all UN agencies in the country. The organization aims to enhance public awareness of the UN's work and its relevance to local communities.

Job Overview:
The internship at UNIC Jakarta is designed for individuals who are eager to gain practical experience in the field of international communications and public outreach. Interns will be involved in various tasks that support the UN's communication efforts in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. The position is full-time and requires a commitment of five days a week, totaling 35 hours. Interns will work under the supervision of a staff member and will have the opportunity to contribute to the planning and execution of inter-agency campaigns, assist in outreach activities, and engage with grassroots networks. This role is particularly suited for those interested in international affairs and communication strategies, as it provides a platform to learn about the UN's operations and its impact on local communities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will have a diverse range of responsibilities that may vary based on their background and the specific office they are assigned to. Key duties include assisting in the content planning and development of communication materials for inter-agency campaigns, which may involve creating social media editorial plans and writing/editing content. Interns will also help amplify UNIC's outreach efforts by engaging with youth networks and other target demographics. Research tasks will be a significant part of the role, including preparing concept notes and documentation for UN-led communication activities. Additionally, interns will be responsible for documenting outreach activities, such as key events and participant numbers, for internal records. Other related duties may be assigned as needed, providing interns with a comprehensive experience in communications and outreach.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet specific educational criteria: they should either be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent) or be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level). Furthermore, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in standard software applications and possess a strong interest in the work of the United Nations, along with a commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. The ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is essential, as is a willingness to understand and respect differing opinions. While prior professional experience is not mandatory, it is advantageous if candidates have interests or skills related to international affairs, communication, and management.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in their final year of a bachelor's degree program or higher (Master's or Ph.D.) or have completed such programs. This educational requirement ensures that interns have a foundational understanding of the principles and practices relevant to the UN's work and the specific tasks they will undertake during their internship.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not a prerequisite for this internship, having relevant interests, skills, and knowledge in areas such as international affairs, communication, and management can be beneficial. The internship is designed to provide practical experience, so candidates with a strong academic background and a keen interest in the UN's mission will be well-suited for this role.

Languages:
Fluency in Bahasa or Indonesian and English is mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of additional UN official languages or regional languages spoken in Indonesia is considered desirable, as it can enhance communication and outreach efforts within diverse communities.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid and requires an in-person commitment at the UNIC Jakarta office. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Those who are not citizens or permanent residents of Indonesia may need to secure the appropriate visa and work authorization before starting the internship. It is important for successful candidates to discuss their visa requirements prior to accepting the internship offer. The UN emphasizes that there are no fees associated with the recruitment process, ensuring that applicants are not charged at any stage.
