Job Overview:
The Energy Efficiency Analyst will play a crucial role in enhancing urban resilience to extreme heat in Dhangadhi, Nepal. This position is part of a project designed to transform Dhangadhi into a model city that embodies the principles of sustainability and energy efficiency. The analyst will provide technical support in the design process, preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), and feasibility studies, focusing on energy-efficient building designs and nature-based solutions. The role involves working closely with municipal officials and stakeholders to implement strategies that mitigate the impacts of extreme heat, thereby improving security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">human security and promoting sustainable development in the region. The analyst will be responsible for conducting assessments, ensuring compliance with environmental standards, and facilitating capacity-building initiatives for local authorities and community groups.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Energy Efficiency Analyst will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Providing technical expertise on energy efficiency, including site assessments, feasibility studies, and preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs).
  • Supporting the Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City (DSMC) in identifying and prioritizing public buildings and community infrastructures for thermal retrofitting.
  • Conducting detailed feasibility studies and social & environmental screenings for selected buildings and infrastructure.
  • Ensuring that selected structures incorporate nature-based and energy-efficient design solutions.
  • Conducting thermal performance assessments and evaluating energy sources for sustainable alternatives.
  • Monitoring construction works and ensuring compliance with technical specifications.
  • Designing and delivering training programs for municipal engineers and community groups on energy-efficient practices.
  • Developing monitoring systems to track performance indicators and documenting lessons learned from interventions.
  • Ensuring gender equality and social inclusion considerations are integrated into all aspects of the project.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Energy Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree) in the aforementioned areas, combined with two additional years of qualifying experience, will be considered. The position requires a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in energy-efficient building design, urban heat management, or related fields. Strong skills in stakeholder engagement, capacity building, and documentation are essential. Familiarity with Nepal's energy-efficient building codes and relevant government guidelines is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master’s degree) in Energy Engineering, Environmental Science, or Energy Efficient Building. A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree) in these areas, along with two years of additional qualifying experience, will also be considered. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the technical aspects of energy efficiency and sustainable development practices.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience for candidates with a Master’s degree, or four years for those with a Bachelor’s degree. This experience should be progressively responsible and include work in the design, development, and implementation of energy-efficient buildings, urban heat management, or related projects. Experience in supervising construction works and ensuring compliance with national standards is also essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Nepali is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, but the primary requirement is strong communication skills in both English and Nepali to effectively engage with local stakeholders and communities.
