Job Overview: The Online Volunteer position at UN Women India is designed to support the organization's efforts in implementing and reporting under the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs). The volunteer will work under the guidance of the Private Sector Officer for Women’s Economic Empowerment. The primary focus of this role is to enhance engagement with approximately 550 WEPs signatories, ensuring that companies move from mere commitment to actual implementation of gender equality practices. This involves conducting follow-ups, improving survey response rates, and tracking actions taken by companies. The volunteer will contribute to the overall goal of advancing gender equality and women's empowerment, which is a critical component of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
Duties and Responsibilities: The Online Volunteer will have a variety of responsibilities aimed at supporting the implementation of the Women's Empowerment Principles. These include:
Conducting outreach and follow-up with approximately 550 WEPs signatories to improve survey response rates and reporting.
Performing 50–75 company follow-ups per week through various communication channels such as emails and telephone calls.
Collecting and tracking 200–300 completed survey responses during the assignment period.
Maintaining and regularly updating a database of WEPs signatories, including their contact information, survey status, reporting status, and follow-up history.
Reviewing and updating the reporting status of 50–75 companies weekly in the master tracker.
Tracking and documenting whether companies have publicly reported their progress through the WEPs website and other means.
Following up with WEPs signatories to gather information on actions undertaken and commitments made.
Compiling and organizing information on company actions across the WEPs Principles, which include leadership, workplace, marketplace, community engagement, and transparency.
Liaising with company representatives to clarify survey responses and obtain missing information. 1
Maintaining trackers that capture companies contacted, responses received, surveys completed, and follow-ups pending. 1
Participating in an orientation call virtually, if requested. All necessary documents and resources will be provided by UN Women, and the workload will be distributed based on the profiles of the Online Volunteers.
Required Qualifications: The position requires volunteers to possess certain qualifications to effectively contribute to the goals of UN Women. These qualifications include strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to facilitate outreach and follow-ups with WEPs signatories. Volunteers should have a good understanding of gender equality issues and the Women's Empowerment Principles. Organizational skills are essential for maintaining databases and trackers, as well as for compiling information and preparing progress updates. Additionally, volunteers should be comfortable using digital communication tools and platforms for outreach and reporting purposes. A proactive attitude and the ability to work independently while also collaborating with the UN Women team are important for success in this role.
Educational Background: While specific educational requirements may not be explicitly stated, a background in social sciences, gender studies, international relations, or a related field would be beneficial for understanding the context of gender equality and women's empowerment. Volunteers with relevant academic qualifications or coursework in these areas will be better equipped to engage with the subject matter and contribute effectively to the organization's objectives.
Experience: The position is open to individuals with varying levels of experience. However, prior experience in volunteer work, particularly in areas related to gender equality, women's empowerment, or non-profit organizations, would be advantageous. Experience in data collection, outreach, or survey administration can also enhance a candidate's suitability for this role. The ability to demonstrate a commitment to gender equality and social justice will be viewed favorably.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all communications and reporting will be conducted in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those spoken in India, would be considered a valuable asset, as it may facilitate communication with a broader range of WEPs signatories and enhance outreach efforts.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position, and as such, it may not offer financial compensation. The role is expected to be part-time, with a flexible workload that will be evenly distributed based on the profiles of the Online Volunteers. The duration of the contract may vary, and volunteers may be recruited nationally or internationally. The position is designed to provide valuable experience in the field of gender equality and women's empowerment, contributing to the broader goals of UN Women and the Sustainable Development Goals.
