Job Overview: The Communications Associate position at UN Women Rwanda involves supporting the formulation and implementation of communication and advocacy strategies aimed at enhancing the visibility and awareness of UN Women among partners, the media, and the public. The incumbent will coordinate the development of a coherent communication strategy for the Country Office, support advocacy efforts through organizing events, and provide guidance on corporate communications. Additionally, the Communications Associate will manage the CO's social media presence and website, ensuring consistent branding and effective communication of UN Women’s initiatives. This role is crucial in promoting high-level advocacy and accountability for gender equality commitments while facilitating knowledge sharing and collaboration within the UN system.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide coordination support in developing a coherent CO communications and advocacy strategy, including substantive inputs to the communication strategy, organizing advocacy events, and monitoring media coverage.
Support the development of advocacy materials, manage publication processes, and maintain a library of reference materials.
Manage the CO’s social media presence and website, including content development, updates, and analytics reporting.
Provide media relations support, including maintaining press relationships, responding to inquiries, and drafting communication materials.
Facilitate knowledge management by drafting communication products, documenting activities, and conducting training on communication practices.
Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in communications and advocacy strategies. Candidates should have experience in social media and digital communications, as well as proficiency in office software and web-based management systems. Knowledge of gender equality and women's empowerment is essential, along with strong multimedia skills and the ability to create and present information clearly.
Educational Background: Completion of secondary education is required, with a Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or journalism being desirable. This educational background supports the necessary skills for effective communication and advocacy in the role.
Experience: Candidates must have at least 7 years of relevant experience in communications and advocacy, demonstrating a track record of supporting the formulation and implementation of strategies. Experience in social media and digital communications is also required, along with proficiency in office software and web-based management systems.
Languages: Fluency in English and Kiryarwanda is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is desirable, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate in a diverse environment.
