Job Overview: The UN Volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the Head of the UNEP Country Office in India. The primary focus of this role is to support national and sub-national actions aimed at strengthening policy alignment and coherence for environmental management and governance. The volunteer will be involved in day-to-day communications and follow-ups related to program implementation, contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 17, particularly SDG 17.1
The position requires a proactive approach to assist in the effective implementation of ongoing projects, develop strategic documents, and engage in research and analysis to enhance policy coherence and alignment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UN Volunteer will undertake a variety of tasks, including assisting the Head of the office in implementing ongoing projects related to policy alignment and coherence. Responsibilities include developing strategic documents, reports, and policy papers through research and analysis, following up on strategic communications with partners, and contributing to research on strategic issues relevant to UNEP in India. The volunteer will prepare communication materials, including social media posts, assist with meeting schedules, prepare meeting outcomes and reports, and serve as the focal point for day-to-day communications related to project implementation. Additional duties may be assigned by the Head of the office, and the volunteer will work closely with the supervisor to finalize a work plan outlining key objectives and activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in a multicultural environment. A commitment to continuous learning and a client-oriented approach are essential. The ideal candidate should also exhibit creativity, integrity, and professionalism, with the ability to work effectively in teams and manage performance. Knowledge sharing and leadership skills are also valued in this role.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required, typically at least a bachelor's degree in environmental science, public policy, international relations, or a related field. Advanced degrees may be preferred, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
Experience: Candidates should have some level of experience in environmental management, policy development, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations or in a UN context is advantageous. The role may suit recent graduates or individuals with a few years of relevant experience who are looking to gain further exposure in the field.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of UNEP. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly Hindi or other regional languages, would be considered an asset and beneficial for communication within the local context.

The UN Volunteer will work in a professional, multicultural environment at the UNEP Office located at UN House, New Delhi, and will have access to the broader UN India system.
