Job Overview:
The Graphic Designer position is part of the Visual and Design team within the Visual Impact and Exhibitions (VIE) section of the Education, Communications and Outreach (ECO) group at CERN. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about visuals, design, and science, and who wish to work in a dynamic team of experienced designers. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to expand their graphic design skills in an international research laboratory while gaining knowledge about high-energy physics, the latest technology developments, and international collaboration in a unique multicultural environment. The position requires the ability to provide design concepts and execute creative, high-quality designs from concept to delivery, while embodying brand guidelines to create cohesive multi-channel visual assets across a multicultural, multitask environment. The Graphic Designer will also collaborate closely with the ECO group on branding guidelines for events and new projects, contributing to various projects and working with teams across the IR Sector and CERN.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Graphic Designer include providing design concepts and executing creative, high-quality designs from concept to delivery. The designer will be responsible for embodying brand guidelines to create cohesive multi-channel visual assets, designing and preparing print assets for publications, brochures, posters, and long-form content, and contributing to information design in general. The role requires close collaboration with the ECO group to create and define branding guidelines for events and new projects. Additionally, the Graphic Designer will contribute to various projects and work with teams across the IR Sector and CERN, ensuring that all design work aligns with the organization's mission and objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Graphic Designer position should possess a portfolio with specific examples of design work, demonstrating proven experience or knowledge of working with Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop. Proficiency in working with PowerPoint and Word in a design environment is also required. The ideal candidate should have a passion for graphic design and a strong interest in science, along with a desire to learn from experts and work in teams in a fast-paced environment. Strong creative and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Graphic Design, Computing, or a related field. Candidates must have graduated within the last two years to be eligible for the position. It is important to note that applicants without a university degree are not eligible, and those with a PhD are also not eligible for this role.

Experience:
The level of experience needed for the Graphic Designer position is a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Graphic Design, Computing, or a related field. This experience should be relevant to the responsibilities of the role and demonstrate the candidate's ability to produce high-quality design work in a collaborative environment.

Languages:

  • The job reference for this position is SR-ECO-VIE-2026-168-GRAE. The compensation includes a monthly stipend ranging from 5,266 to 5,793 Swiss Francs per month, which is tax-free and dependent on the candidate's degree. Additionally, employees are entitled to 30 days of paid leave per year, plus two weeks of annual closure. Coverage by CERN's comprehensive health insurance scheme is provided for the employee, their spouse, and children, along with membership in the CERN Pension Fund. Family, child, and infant monthly allowances may also be available depending on individual circumstances. A relocation package, including an installation grant and travel expenses, is offered based on individual circumstances. On-the-job and formal training, including language classes, will be provided to support the successful candidate's professional development.
