Job Overview:
The FPGA Developer position at CERN offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about digital design, digital signal processing, and experimental accelerator physics. The successful candidate will join the Accelerator Systems Department (SY) and work within the Radio Frequency (RF) Group, which is responsible for the design, operation, and maintenance of RF acceleration and deflecting systems across the entire CERN accelerator complex. The role involves contributing to the modernization of Low-Level Radio Frequency (LLRF) systems, which are crucial for the performance upgrade of CERN's advanced linear accelerators. The FPGA Developer will be directly involved in the design, prototyping, and implementation of next-generation digital LLRF cavity controllers, bridging laboratory innovations with hands-on commissioning at a world-class facility. Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the FPGA Developer include developing FPGA firmware that implements precise real-time phase, amplitude, and resonance tuning algorithms. The candidate will design and integrate firmware components and fast diagnostic sub-systems, as well as develop Python-based tools and frameworks for automated hardware testing, parameter characterization, and laboratory data analysis. Additionally, the role involves supporting the integration, laboratory validation, and commissioning of new low-level cavity controllers directly, ensuring that all systems function optimally and meet the required specifications. The FPGA Developer will also be expected to troubleshoot and validate mixed-signal hardware systems, contributing to the overall success of the RF Group's projects.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a professional background in Electronics Engineering or a related field. Required qualifications include experience in FPGA design and firmware development, preferably using VHDL, as well as familiarity with FPGA development environments and verification/debugging tools. Programming experience in Python or a similar language for test automation and data analysis is also essential. Desired qualifications include experience modeling or simulating digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms or control loops, exposure to Radio Frequency (RF) concepts, basic control theory (like PID loops), and electronics hardware debugging. Familiarity with hardware testing and developing automated test benches for hardware validation is also advantageous.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes either a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience. Candidates must also be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and should not have previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.

Experience:
The level of experience needed for the FPGA Developer position includes a solid foundation in FPGA design and firmware development, with a preference for candidates who have practical experience in the field. A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience is expected for those with a Master's degree, while candidates with a PhD should have up to 3 years of experience. Familiarity with digital signal processing and control systems will be considered a valuable asset.

Languages:
Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory, as it is the working language at CERN. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to learning French, which is beneficial for integration into the local community and workplace. Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is 24 months, with a possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the job offers flexibility with a hybrid working model. The target start date for this position is September 1, 202
