Job Overview:

Duties and Responsibilities:
As a Research Fellow in Experimental Physics at CERN, your key responsibilities will include conducting research within a chosen CERN research group, contributing to CERN’s experimental physics programme utilizing large-scale scientific instruments, and collaborating with physicists and engineers on studies of particle interactions and related research activities. You will be expected to develop and pursue your own research interests within the framework of the fellowship, while also engaging in collaborative projects that align with CERN’s scientific objectives. Additionally, you will be responsible for presenting and discussing research results effectively within a scientific environment, and working independently while contributing to shared research goals.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must hold a strong background in experimental particle physics or a closely related field. Research experience that aligns with the scientific activities at CERN’s experimental facilities is essential. Applicants should demonstrate motivation to join a research group and contribute to high-impact scientific work, as well as a willingness to develop and pursue their own research interests within the fellowship framework. Educational Background:
A PhD in experimental particle physics or a closely related field is required for this position. Candidates must either hold a PhD by the application deadline or be in the process of obtaining one within six months of the deadline. It is important that applicants have not previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract, and CERN staff members are not eligible to apply for this fellowship.

Experience:
Candidates should have no more than six years of research experience after the completion of their PhD degree. This experience should be relevant to the scientific activities carried out at CERN’s experimental facilities, demonstrating a strong foundation in experimental physics and research methodologies.

Languages:
Proficiency in English or French is mandatory, as candidates will need to communicate effectively in a scientific environment. Additional language skills may be considered advantageous but are not required.

• The fellowship offers a monthly stipend ranging from 7004 to 7425 Swiss Francs, which is tax-free, along with 30 days of paid leave per year and additional benefits such as comprehensive health insurance coverage, family allowances, and a relocation package depending on individual circumstances. On-the-job and formal training, including language classes, will also be provided.
