Job Overview: The National UN Volunteer Communications Associate will play a crucial role in enhancing the visibility of UNFPA's programs and advocacy efforts in Bihar. This position is part of the UNFPA Bihar State Office and involves close collaboration with the Communications and Media unit at the UNFPA Country Office. The Associate will be responsible for executing state-specific communications strategies, developing programmatic communication products, and creating innovative materials aimed at community engagement. The role also includes documenting flagship programs, assisting in proofreading and editing reports, and supporting event curation and coordination. The Associate will work in a dynamic team environment, contributing to impactful solutions that align with UNFPA's mission.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the National UN Volunteer Communications Associate include:
Supporting the execution of state-specific communications and media strategies and plans.
Developing programmatic communications products such as brochures, leaflets, fact sheets, and posters.
Creating innovative communication materials, including training toolkits and BCC modules for community advocacy.
Documenting flagship programs and transforming them into compelling products like success stories and case studies.
Assisting in proofreading and editing reports and documents, as well as developing content for talking points and remarks.
Supporting the team in curating and coordinating events, campaigns, and workshops that highlight UNFPA Bihar's work.
Liaising with the Communications and Media Unit to organize media workshops, visits, and press releases.
Highlighting state-specific events through social media reporting and posts.
Performing any other duties as requested by the State Head.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a strong sense of collaborative work, excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The candidate should be able to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals, genuinely valuing others' ideas and expertise. A willingness to learn from others and placing the team agenda before personal interests is essential. The candidate should also demonstrate integrity, commitment to UNFPA and the UN system, and embrace cultural diversity and change.
Educational Background: Candidates should possess a degree in communications, public relations, social sciences, or a related field. A background in media studies or journalism would be advantageous. The educational qualifications should reflect a strong understanding of communication strategies and media relations.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have prior experience in communications, public relations, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or in a similar context would be beneficial. Familiarity with the socio-political landscape of Bihar and understanding of gender issues and reproductive health would be an asset.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in Hindi is highly desirable. Knowledge of local dialects or languages spoken in Bihar would be an added advantage, as it would facilitate better communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in Patna, Bihar. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The contract duration is specified, with the possibility of extensions based on funding availability and satisfactory performance. However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment. The Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities, and living expenses. Additional benefits include comprehensive health, life, and disability insurance, annual leave of 2.5 days per month, and access to UNV's learning and career development resources. The monthly VLA is INR 70,158.41, with a one-time entry lump sum payment of USD 350 and relocation costs of $175 if applicable.
