The organization operates in numerous countries, promoting the values of free will, commitment, engagement, and solidarity in volunteerism.

Job Overview:
The Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) is enhancing its strategic communications to increase the visibility and impact of UN initiatives throughout the region. In this context, the office is looking for an Online Volunteer (OV) to assist in developing and refining editorial content that showcases the work of UN entities, partners, and volunteers in Latin America and the Caribbean. The OV will collaborate closely with the ROLAC Communications Specialist and the regional communications team to create, edit, and adapt content for various digital platforms, including the UNV website and social media channels. This role involves drafting articles, success stories, and human-interest pieces that embody the values of volunteerism and highlight the contributions of UN Volunteers to sustainable development. The OV's work will be particularly significant in relation to ongoing initiatives such as the International Volunteer Day (IVD), International Volunteer Youth (IVY), and Volunteers for Events Initiatives, where editorial content is crucial in demonstrating the engagement of volunteers and the transformative impact of their efforts. This assignment presents a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience in UN communications, contribute to impactful storytelling, and work alongside a dynamic regional team dedicated to promoting volunteerism as a vital force for change.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will be responsible for drafting, editing, and proofreading editorial content for various digital platforms. This includes creating articles, success stories, and social media copy that highlight the impact of UN Volunteers and key regional initiatives. The content produced must align with UNV’s strategic messaging and adhere to its editorial standards. The OV will also be tasked with ensuring that the stories reflect the values of volunteerism and the contributions of UN Volunteers to sustainable development. Additionally, the OV may assist in content related to thematic areas such as gender equality and youth empowerment, ensuring that all materials are engaging and informative. The role requires collaboration with the communications team to ensure consistency and quality in all published content.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Online Volunteer position should possess strong writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail. They should be able to produce clear, engaging, and impactful content suitable for digital platforms. Familiarity with UNV’s mission and values, as well as an understanding of volunteerism and its role in development, is essential. The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders is also important. Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms is highly desirable, as is experience in content creation or storytelling.

Educational Background:
A background in communications, journalism, international relations, or a related field is preferred for this position. Candidates should have a solid understanding of the principles of effective communication and storytelling, particularly in the context of development and volunteerism. Relevant coursework or training in digital media, social media management, or content creation will be advantageous.

Experience:
While prior experience in communications or content creation is beneficial, it is not strictly required. The position is open to individuals who are eager to learn and develop their skills in a professional setting. Experience in volunteer work or involvement with non-profit organizations may also be considered an asset, as it demonstrates a commitment to the values of volunteerism and community engagement.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all content will be produced in English. Proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable, given the regional focus on Latin America and the Caribbean. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered a plus, as it can enhance the ability to engage with diverse audiences and stakeholders.
