Job Overview: The Country Programme Coordinator will report to the Deputy Regional Director and will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and management of UN Women interventions in the Americas and Caribbean Regional Office. This role requires close collaboration with the programme and operations team at the regional office, UN Women HQ staff, government officials, multi and bi-lateral donors, and civil society to ensure successful implementation of UN Women programmes. The coordinator will oversee the development and monitoring of the country programme annual workplan, ensuring compliance with UN Women rules and donor requirements, and will facilitate audits and implement recommendations. The position also involves providing technical support and capacity development to project partners, drafting progress reports, managing budgets, and contributing to inter-agency coordination and resource mobilization strategies. The incumbent will lead a team of 5 to 6 personnel, focusing on thematic areas and operational support, while fostering an inclusive and collaborative work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee and guide country programme management, including the development and monitoring of the annual workplan, budget, and results framework. Ensure effective resource use and compliance with UN Women policies and donor requirements. Facilitate audits and implement recommendations.
Provide technical support and capacity development to project partners in areas such as women, peace and security, economic empowerment, and ending violence against women. Maintain relationships with national partners and coordinate capacity-building initiatives.
Contribute technical inputs to monitoring and reporting of programme activities, including establishing effective monitoring systems and drafting progress reports.
Manage financial aspects, including budget implementation and revisions, and provide inputs for financial reports.
Support inter-agency coordination by providing inputs to the Comprehensive Country Assessment and UN Cooperation Framework processes.
Assist in building partnerships and resource mobilization strategies, preparing documentation for donors, and participating in donor meetings.
Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office and organization.
Required Qualifications: A Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, human rights, gender/women’s studies, international development, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A project/programme management certification (such as PMP®, PRINCE2®, or MSP®) is an added advantage. Candidates should possess good programme formulation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation skills, as well as budget and finance skills. Knowledge of Results Based Management and gender equality is essential, along with the ability to work independently and analyze trends related to fundraising.
Educational Background: Candidates must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as social sciences, human rights, gender/women’s studies, or international development. A first-level university degree may be accepted with additional qualifying experience. A project/programme management certification is advantageous.
Experience: At least 2 years of progressively responsible experience at the national and/or international level in design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of development projects is required. Experience in establishing inter-relationships among international organizations and national governments is essential. Experience in gender and human rights of women is desirable, along with familiarity with UN system norms and administrative systems. Candidates should have experience working independently and leading staff in international settings, as well as proficiency in office software and web-based management systems.
Languages: Fluency in English and Spanish is required for this position, ensuring effective communication with diverse stakeholders and partners.
