Job Overview:
This internship is designed to provide practical experience in the Civil Society and Academic Impact Section within the Outreach Division of the Department of Global Communications. The intern will support the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) initiative, which connects higher education institutions with the UN to advance its goals. The internship is full-time, requiring 35 hours per week, and is expected to last between four to six months. Interns will work under the supervision of UN staff, engaging in various tasks that contribute to the UNAI's mission, including research, content creation, and event organization. The position is unpaid, but it offers valuable experience in a prestigious international organization, with the possibility of a hybrid or remote work arrangement based on the needs of the successful candidates.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will assist the UNAI team with a variety of tasks, including: conducting internet research on issues related to UNAI's principles, such as human rights and sustainability; producing and editing web content, including news stories and multimedia; creating social media content for platforms like LinkedIn; preparing the weekly UNAI Newsletter; organizing lectures and events, including researching speakers and preparing promotional materials; maintaining UNAI databases; and providing general office support, which includes drafting correspondence, organizing meetings, and maintaining files.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent) or be in the final year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in fields such as journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, or international relations. While professional work experience is not required, a relevant field of study is essential. Candidates should also possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams, and demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be enrolled in or have completed a relevant degree program. This includes being a student in the final year of a bachelor’s degree, or having completed a master’s or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion will be required during the application process, and candidates must provide an official certificate later if selected.

Experience:
While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. Skills in writing, social media, and multimedia production are highly desirable, and candidates may be assessed on their writing abilities prior to an interview.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as English is one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat. Knowledge of another UN official language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered desirable and may enhance a candidate's application.
