The Office of Supply Chain Management (OSCM) is part of the Department of Operational Support (DOS) within the United Nations. Job Overview:
The Research Data Analyst Intern position is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to the Office of Supply Chain Management (OSCM) while gaining valuable experience in data analysis and research within a global context. Interns will work closely with OSCM team members on projects that aim to improve supply chain operations and enhance decision-making processes. The role involves gathering and analyzing data from various sources, performing statistical analyses, and developing reports and visualizations that communicate findings effectively. Interns will have the opportunity to learn about the UN's operational framework and contribute to initiatives that support the organization's mission. The internship is structured to provide hands-on experience in data science, data analytics, and supply chain management, with a focus on developing skills that are applicable in both the public and private sectors.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks that contribute to the overall objectives of the OSCM. Key responsibilities include:
  • Gathering and analyzing data from multiple databases and sources to support decision-making processes.
  • Performing statistical and mathematical programming to develop reports and visual representations of data.
  • Maintaining and updating databases and data systems to ensure data integrity and accessibility.
  • Creating data visualizations for internal and external stakeholders to communicate insights effectively.
  • Translating complex data results into written reports and presentations for management review.
  • Identifying trends and patterns in data using statistical methods and basic machine learning techniques.
  • Contributing to the development of innovative data science solutions that enhance organizational planning and implementation.
  • Assisting team members with data cleaning and ensuring high-quality data for analysis.
  • Documenting processes and methodologies to improve data management practices within the office.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree as defined above. The organization welcomes candidates from diverse educational and professional backgrounds, particularly those pursuing studies in Analytics, Business Intelligence, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Visualization, or related fields. Knowledge of data analysis tools and techniques is highly desirable, and candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of data management and quantitative analysis methods.

Educational Background:
Candidates should possess a relevant educational background that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. This includes being enrolled in or having completed a degree in fields such as Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering, Mathematics, or Data Visualization. The internship is open to individuals at various stages of their academic careers, including those pursuing advanced degrees or those in their final year of undergraduate studies. The emphasis is on candidates who have completed coursework that provides a solid foundation in data analysis and research methodologies.

Experience:
No prior working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. However, candidates should have relevant training, education, or advanced coursework that would benefit the UN during their internship. Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.   • Interns may work on a full-time or part-time basis, with flexible working arrangements available, including remote work options. Candidates who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents will need to obtain a G4 visa and ensure they have the necessary work authorization to undertake the internship. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, and all costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns must commit to a minimum of two months of full-time work or four months of part-time work to receive recognition of service.
