Job Overview: The Technical SupportAnalyst will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of urbanization projects in Izidora, a neighborhood in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. This position involves collaborating with UN-Habitat’s operational and technical teams to ensure the successful execution of the project aimed at improving municipal infrastructure and social housing options. The analyst will be responsible for analyzing various urban projects, including road systems, drainage, and architectural designs, while also engaging with the local community to gather insights and feedback. The role requires a proactive approach to project management, ensuring that all tasks are completed on time and to the required standards. The analyst will also be expected to prepare reports and documentation at various stages of the project, contributing to the overall success of the initiative.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Technical Support Analyst will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Participating in and supporting sustainable urbanization projects in Izidora.
Analyzing earthmoving, geometric, and pavement projects for road systems to ensure compliance with urban planning standards.
Evaluating containment and drainage projects specifically designed for informal settlements to enhance community resilience.
Reviewing urbanistic and architectural projects to ensure they meet the needs of the local population.
Analyzing budgets for urbanization projects to ensure financial feasibility and sustainability.
Engaging with the Izidora community through meetings to understand their needs and incorporate their feedback into project planning.
Attending meetings and conferences organized by UN-Habitat and its partners to represent the project and share insights.
Preparing comprehensive reports for partners and internal stakeholders at various stages of the project.
Ensuring timely delivery of all assigned tasks and responsibilities. 1

Adhering to United Nations security protocols and ensuring personal safety while working in the field.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Urbanism, or related fields. A postgraduate degree in these areas is preferred, or alternatively, candidates may qualify with an additional four years of relevant experience beyond the educational requirements. The position requires a minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in project or program management related to urban themes, particularly within Brazil. Experience in social housing policies, sustainable urbanization for informal settlements, and urban infrastructure projects is essential. Familiarity with geometric design, earthmoving, drainage, and land-use projects is desirable. Previous experience within the UN System is also an advantage. Candidates should demonstrate strong computer skills, including proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, and online platforms, as well as knowledge of project management methodologies.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Urbanism, or related fields. Additionally, a postgraduate degree (Lato Sensu or Stricto Sensu) in these areas is required, or candidates may substitute this with four years of relevant experience beyond the Bachelor's degree. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of urban planning and infrastructure development necessary for the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in project or program management focused on urban-related themes, specifically within Brazil. Candidates should have substantial experience in social housing policies, plans, and projects, as well as sustainable urbanization initiatives for informal settlements. Experience in the development and management of urban infrastructure projects, including geometric design and drainage systems, is highly desirable. Previous experience working within the UN System is also considered beneficial for this role.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication with local communities and stakeholders. Additionally, working knowledge of English or Spanish is desirable, given that English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, while Spanish is the working language of the Regional Office. Proficiency in these languages will enhance collaboration with international partners and facilitate the sharing of information.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Brazil and is open to nationals or external candidates holding a permanent visa in Brazil. The contract is for a duration of six months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funds. The consultant will receive a monthly allowance upon approval of their activity reports by the Head of Brazil Office. Travel may be required for project-related activities, and all missions will be coordinated and financed by UN-Habitat according to United Nations travel guidelines.
