Job Overview: The Laboratory and Diagnostic Officer plays a crucial role in providing technical support and assistance in strengthening laboratory systems and diagnostics as part of the STRIDES Morocco Activity. This position is integral to the day-to-day implementation of laboratory-related activities, working under the guidance of the Senior Laboratory and Diagnostic Officer. The Officer will assist in developing technical materials and reports, contribute to workplan preparation, and document progress. The role involves close collaboration with the senior technical team, government counterparts, and in-country partners to ensure effective delivery of laboratory and diagnostic interventions. The Officer will monitor activity progress and assist in building the capacity of the national laboratory system, ensuring alignment with Morocco's national health priorities and the objectives of the STRIDES Morocco workplan.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Laboratory and Diagnostic Officer include providing technical support for the implementation of laboratory systems strengthening and diagnostic activities. This involves preparing documentation and logistics for technical meetings, developing laboratory-related tools and guidelines, and monitoring project protocols and data sets. The Officer will conduct literature searches on laboratory systems and diagnostics, contribute to knowledge sharing, and ensure that laboratory activities adhere to standard operating procedures. Additional responsibilities include quality control of technical outputs, supporting workplan preparation, and participating in client and funder meetings. The Officer will also provide administrative support for training events and assist in compiling technical content for reports and presentations. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a basic working knowledge of laboratory systems, biosafety, and quality management principles relevant to public health programs. Familiarity with Morocco's public health system and national laboratory landscape is essential. A basic understanding of diagnostic methods and laboratory quality standards, such as ISO 15189 and SLIPTA, is required. Proficiency in database management software and online search tools is necessary, along with excellent organizational and analytical skills. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to analyze and interpret data, identify errors, and prepare reports. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders are also important.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree or its international equivalent in Laboratory Sciences, Public Health, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding laboratory systems and diagnostics in a public health context.
Experience: Typically, candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant experience in laboratory systems, diagnostics, or a related technical area. Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency, or private organization is preferred. Experience with USAID- or U.S. Department of State-funded projects in Morocco or the MENA region is considered an advantage, as it provides insight into the operational context of such projects.
Languages: Professional proficiency in Arabic, French, and English is mandatory for this position. Strong written and verbal communication skills in all three languages are required to effectively engage with clients, government counterparts, and team members.
Additional Notes: The position is expected to require travel of approximately 10% to 25%. The anticipated hiring salary range for this role is MAD 160,000 - 220,000 for annual gross salary.
