Job Overview: The Senior Research Manager will play a crucial role in the Institute for Disease Modeling (IDM) at the Gates Foundation, specifically within the Elimination & Eradication (E&E) malaria team. This position involves close collaboration with the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Deputy Director for E&E, the IDM leadership team, and other senior research managers to develop a comprehensive malaria modeling strategy. The role requires managing the malaria modeling team, setting strategic priorities, and guiding methodological approaches, including dynamical and statistical modeling. The Senior Research Manager will ensure the delivery of impactful model results that inform investment strategies aimed at eradicating malaria. The position also involves international and domestic travel up to 20% of the time, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with various stakeholders to achieve the Foundation's goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the E&E Deputy Director and IDM leadership to develop a malaria modeling strategy that aligns with the Foundation's goals for global malaria eradication.
Create a malaria modeling portfolio that is responsive to scientific advancements and changes in the malaria program pipeline.
Manage the IDM malaria team project portfolio to deliver timely analytical products that guide strategic priorities for malaria control and eradication.
Develop modeling approaches to assess the implementation of new tools and interventions in endemic settings.
Coordinate across IDM research pillars and other Foundation teams to maximize collaborative impact.
Lead planning and coordination of malaria projects for quarterly IDM Research Reviews.
Performance manage direct reports and foster a collaborative working environment among senior research managers.
Required Qualifications:
A PhD in modeling of infectious disease, infectious disease epidemiology, malaria epidemiology, or a related field.
Proven success in complex, multi-disciplinary environments, preferably within a large research institute.
Experience translating modeling results into public health policy impacts, working with public health partners to deliver analytical results that enhance decision-making.
Advanced knowledge of mathematical modeling approaches, particularly in vector-borne diseases like malaria, as well as statistical techniques and spatial analytics.
Proven track record in managing analytical workflows and teams to deliver modeling results in public health contexts.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey the strategic importance of modeling results to diverse stakeholders.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a PhD degree in a relevant field such as modeling of infectious disease, infectious disease epidemiology, or malaria epidemiology.
