Job Overview:
The Senior Research Manager will play a crucial role in the Institute for Disease Modeling (IDM) at the Gates Foundation, focusing on the Elimination & Eradication (E&E) malaria team. The position requires the development and implementation of a modeling strategy that supports the Foundation's overarching goal of achieving zero malaria cases, particularly in key geographic areas. The role may involve up to 20% travel, both domestically and internationally, to engage with various stakeholders and partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Research Manager will be responsible for several key duties, including:
  • Collaborating with the E&E Deputy Director and IDM leadership to develop a comprehensive malaria modeling strategy that aligns with the Foundation's goals.
  • Creating a malaria modeling portfolio that responds to scientific advancements and changes in the global health landscape.
  • Managing the IDM malaria team project portfolio to ensure timely delivery of analytical products that guide strategic priorities for malaria control and eradication.
  • Developing modeling approaches to assess the implementation of new tools and interventions in endemic settings.
  • Coordinating across IDM research pillars and other Foundation teams to maximize collaborative impact.
  • Leading the planning and coordination of malaria projects for quarterly IDM Research Reviews.
  • Performance managing direct reports and fostering a collaborative working environment among senior research managers.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a PhD in modeling of infectious diseases, infectious disease epidemiology, malaria epidemiology, or a related field. A proven track record of success in complex, multidisciplinary environments, particularly within large research institutes, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate experience in translating modeling results into public health policy impacts and have advanced knowledge of mathematical modeling approaches, especially in vector-borne diseases like malaria. Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously are also required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary to convey the strategic importance of modeling results to various stakeholders.

Educational Background:
