Job Overview:
As a Senior Data Engineer within the IT Enterprise Data Solutions (EDS) department, you will play a crucial role in designing, building, operating, and continuously improving secure, scalable, and reliable data solutions on the foundation’s Modern Data Platform. This position requires you to be a hands-on engineer and domain expert who can translate business and technical requirements into production-ready data pipelines, products, models, and platform capabilities. You will collaborate with various teams, including data and AI engineers, business systems analysts, product owners, data analysts, BI engineers, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security specialists, and service partners. Your contributions will enhance the availability, quality, lineage, and usability of data for reporting, AI-assisted knowledge discovery, and other data-driven decision-making processes across the foundation and its affiliates. This role is based in Seattle and is integral to the foundation's mission of leveraging data technology for informed decision-making and strategic insights.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Your responsibilities will include designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting configuration-driven ELT/ETL pipelines that acquire data from various sources such as enterprise applications, databases, APIs, and file repositories. You will build reusable ingestion and transformation patterns for different types of data, including structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data. Additionally, you will develop curated data products and dimensional models to support enterprise reporting and analytics. You will implement transformations using SQL, Python, Spark/PySpark, Databricks notebooks, dbt Cloud, and other cloud-native engineering tools. Your role will also involve monitoring and optimizing data pipelines for performance and cost efficiency, implementing data quality controls, and applying secure engineering practices. You will engineer high-quality data and document pipelines that support enterprise search and AI use cases, collaborate with various teams to define data products, and evaluate emerging data and AI platform capabilities. Furthermore, you will conduct design and code reviews, mentor junior data engineers, and maintain technical documentation.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data engineering, information systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Typically, candidates should have at least 7 years of relevant data engineering experience in enterprise environments, including experience in designing, delivering, and operating production data platforms and pipelines. Strong hands-on expertise with Azure data services, Databricks, Snowflake, and dbt Cloud is essential, with a preference for experience with Azure Data Factory and Fivetran. Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python is required, along with practical experience in Spark/PySpark or Scala and cloud scripting or automation. Candidates should also have experience implementing lakehouse and cloud data warehouse architectures, as well as a strong understanding of data security and governance in cloud environments.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data engineering, information systems, or a related field is required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in data engineering principles and practices, as well as familiarity with relevant technologies and tools used in the field.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 7 years of relevant data engineering experience, particularly in enterprise environments. This experience should include designing, delivering, and operating production data platforms and pipelines. Candidates should demonstrate strong hands-on expertise with various data services and tools, as well as experience in implementing data architectures and ensuring data quality and security.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, as effective communication is essential for collaboration with technical and non-technical partners. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not explicitly required for this position.

The salary range for this position is between $157,400 and $236,000 USD, with higher ranges for specific locations such as Seattle and Washington D.C. New hire salaries typically fall between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range, depending on the candidate's skills and experience.
