Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is situated within the Recruitment Services Unit (RSU) of the Human Resources Management Section (HRMS) in the Administration and Conference Management Division (ACMD) at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Chief of Unit and will be involved in various activities aimed at promoting inclusive recruitment practices and enhancing workplace readiness for individuals with disabilities and other underrepresented groups. The role is designed to provide practical experience in human resources management, particularly in the context of diversity and inclusion initiatives. The intern will engage in outreach efforts, conduct research, and support events that align with the ECA's mission to foster an inclusive work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a range of duties including:
Inclusive Outreach and Engagement: Supporting the identification of networks and organizations that represent persons with disabilities and other underrepresented groups, drafting inclusive outreach messages, and maintaining an outreach contact list.
Research and Knowledge Development: Conducting desk research on inclusive recruitment practices and contributing to the development of knowledge products such as fact sheets and case studies.
Support to Inclusive Workplace Readiness: Compiling recommendations for creating accessible work environments and supporting activities that promote awareness of disability inclusion within the ECA.
Event and Campaign Support: Assisting in the planning and organization of outreach events, webinars, and awareness campaigns focused on inclusion and diversity.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes either a graduate degree or a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Candidates should be currently enrolled in a program or have recently completed their studies, demonstrating a commitment to learning and professional development in human resources or related areas.
Experience: While specific prior experience is not mandated, candidates should possess a strong interest in human resources, diversity, and inclusion. Any previous internships or volunteer work related to recruitment, outreach, or support for underrepresented groups would be advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French, which is another official UN language, is considered an advantage, as it may enhance communication and collaboration within the organization.
Additional Notes: This internship is not financially remunerated, meaning that interns will not receive a salary or stipend from the United Nations. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses.
