Established in 1993, the OHCHR operates in various countries, focusing on human rights issues and providing support to governments and civil society. The organization employs a diverse workforce and engages in numerous initiatives to address human rights violations and promote accountability.

Job Overview:
The Associate Digital Communications Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the communication strategy of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU). This position involves developing digital content and broader digital campaigns across various platforms. The incumbent will be responsible for producing communication materials such as photos, videos, infographics, and webpages. Additionally, the officer will maintain and update information on official websites and social media, ensuring that content is current and engaging. The role also includes organizing public online and offline events, such as the launch of OHCHR public reports and Human Rights Day celebrations. Collaboration with other UN communication officers within the UN Communication and Advocacy Group (UNCAG) is essential, as the officer will participate in joint digital communications campaigns that emphasize human rights perspectives. The position requires a proactive approach to communication-related functions and special duties as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Digital Communications Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Supporting the design and implementation of the communication strategy for the HRMMU by developing digital content and campaigns.
  • Producing communication and reporting materials, including photos, videos, infographics, leaflets, and webpages.
  • Maintaining and updating information on official websites and social media platforms to ensure content is current.
  • Contributing to the organization of public online and offline events, including the launch of OHCHR public reports and Human Rights Day.
  • Collaborating with other UN communication officers within the UNCAG to develop joint digital communications campaigns.
  • Maintaining and updating the stock of digital communications materials for the Mission.
  • Performing other communication-related functions and special duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate professionalism in their work, showcasing knowledge of strategic communications principles and practices. They should be able to develop and implement effective communication strategies and draft clear messages tailored for diverse audiences. The ability to conduct research, analyze data, and interpret information to support decision-making is essential. Candidates should also have a strong understanding of current and emerging digital media platforms and their technologies. Furthermore, they must show a commitment to incorporating gender perspectives and ensuring equal participation of women and men in all areas of work.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, media relations, public information, law, or other social sciences or humanities is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in the aforementioned areas combined with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in communications, international relations, public information, or related fields is required. Candidates must have experience in graphic design and video editing, as well as in the design, development, and maintenance of web pages. Experience within the United Nations common system or a similar international organization is desirable, providing candidates with a solid understanding of the UN's operational framework and communication needs.

Languages:
The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. For this position, proficiency in English is required, with a minimum UN Level III proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Additionally, proficiency in Ukrainian and Russian is required, also at UN Level III for all language skills, ensuring effective communication within the local context and with diverse stakeholders.
