Job Overview: The position of International Consultant - Editor at UN Women involves providing expert editorial services to enhance the quality of reports, knowledge products, and communication materials. The consultant will work closely with the Monitoring and Reporting Specialist and the Programme Management Support Unit Manager to ensure that all outputs meet the required standards of clarity, accuracy, and adherence to organizational style guidelines. The consultant will be responsible for reviewing and revising reports to ensure correctness in language, grammar, and terminology, while also strengthening results-based reporting by aligning activities with clear results statements. The role requires a strong understanding of gender equality and women's human rights, as well as the ability to synthesize information from various sources into coherent narratives that effectively communicate the organization's objectives and achievements. The consultant will also provide actionable feedback to improve the quality of reporting within the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant's duties and responsibilities include:
Reviewing and revising UN Women reports to ensure correctness of language, grammar, and politically appropriate terminology.
Strengthening results-based reporting by ensuring that activities are accompanied by clear results statements aligned with the logic model.
Maintaining consistency with previous reports and proactively requesting and reviewing past reports.
Applying a consistent style and format across documents, eliminating repetition and inconsistencies.
Ensuring proper positioning and numbering of boxes, figures, and tables, and standardizing fonts for headings and text.
Verifying the completeness and consistency of footnotes, sources, and references.
Conducting thorough reviews of annexes and highlighting incomplete areas while ensuring alignment with UN Women publication guidelines.
Editing and refining reports, knowledge products, and communication materials to align with UN Women’s reporting style manual.
Synthesizing information from multiple sources into coherent, results-focused narratives. 1
Preparing specific, actionable feedback for UN Women teams to strengthen reporting quality and adherence to standards.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for this position include:
A Master’s degree in communications, journalism, international development, gender studies, or a related field.
A minimum of 5 years of progressive relevant editorial expertise.
Strong knowledge of gender equality and women’s human rights, with the ability to integrate these perspectives into reporting and publications.
Demonstrated expertise in results-based reporting (RBM), including familiarity with logic models, indicators, and donor reporting requirements.
Prior relevant work experience with UN Women is desirable.
Knowledge and understanding of the social, cultural, and political context of Afghanistan and the women’s rights situation in the country is also desirable.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in communications, journalism, international development, gender studies, or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively contribute to the organization's reporting and communication efforts.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of progressive relevant editorial expertise. This experience should include a strong understanding of gender equality and women's human rights, as well as proven ability to integrate these perspectives into reporting and publications. Familiarity with results-based reporting (RBM) principles, including logic models and donor reporting requirements, is also essential.
