Job Overview: The International Consultant will conduct a systematic literature review and analytical synthesis to strengthen the evidence base on how women’s entrepreneurship, particularly in the care and green economies and tourism, contributes to inclusive economic growth and women’s economic empowerment. The consultant will develop an analytical framework, conduct a literature review, and synthesize findings to inform policy and investment strategies. This role is crucial in addressing the gaps in understanding the 'Missing Middle' segment of women-owned businesses and their impact on economic growth and women's empowerment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop an analytical framework and research design to examine enterprise-level and system-level effects.
Conduct a systematic literature review focusing on definitions, typologies, constraints, support mechanisms, and outcomes related to women-owned enterprises.
Synthesize evidence to identify patterns and relationships between constraints, interventions, and outcomes.
Develop a knowledge product that translates technical evidence into a structured, policy-relevant narrative.
Engage with ecosystem actors to articulate actionable insights for creating decent work and employment opportunities.
Ensure the analysis aligns with ongoing ecosystem engagement and innovative finance exploration under the programme.
At least 5 years of relevant experience in research on entrepreneurship, private sector development, and business economics.
Proven experience in conducting systematic literature reviews and peer-reviewed research.
Strong understanding of women’s economic empowerment and the care economy is desirable.
Prior experience in the UN System is an advantage.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields is required. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: At least 5 years of relevant experience in conducting research on entrepreneurship and business economics is required. Experience in systematic literature reviews and gender analysis is essential. Familiarity with the UN System is desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is required. Additional languages may be beneficial but are not specified as mandatory.
Additional Notes: This is a home-based consultancy without official travel. The contract is on a retainer basis, with payments based on the number of days worked. There is no guarantee of work during the term of the agreement, and selected consultants may decline assignments based on availability and expertise.
