Job Overview:
The role of Online Volunteer is part of a collaborative initiative between the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) and Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) to implement a social media advocacy campaign in Malawi, commemorating the International Year of Volunteers (IVY). This campaign, which runs from June to November 2026, aims to highlight the significance of volunteerism in achieving national development goals. Online Volunteers will play a crucial role in disseminating campaign materials and raising awareness about the importance of volunteerism through social media platforms. They will be responsible for sharing pre-approved content, including graphics and key messages, to engage the public and promote the campaign's webinars and initiatives. The campaign is aligned with the Global Index of Volunteer Engagement (GIVE) framework and the Global Volunteering Standard, emphasizing the need for effective communication and outreach to foster a culture of volunteerism.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Online Volunteers will be tasked with the following responsibilities:
  • Disseminate pre-approved campaign materials, graphics, and key messages across various social media platforms.
  • Raise awareness about the IVY campaign, its webinars, and the importance of volunteerism in Malawi and globally.
  • Utilize the provided content toolkit and adhere to the posting schedule created by the campaign team.
  • Generate public interest and digital engagement through effective communication strategies.
  • Ensure that all messaging remains consistent with the campaign's objectives and does not engage in debates or political discussions on behalf of UNV, VSO, or their partners.
  • Collaborate with the communication team to provide feedback on the campaign's effectiveness and suggest improvements where necessary.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Online Volunteer position should possess the following qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and digital communication strategies.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to convey messages clearly and effectively.
  • Familiarity with volunteerism and its role in community development is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • A commitment to the values and mission of UNV and VSO, including respect for diversity and inclusion.

Educational Background:
While there are no specific educational requirements for the Online Volunteer position, candidates with backgrounds in communications, social sciences, international development, or related fields will be preferred. Experience:
