Job Overview: The Intern will work under the direct supervision of the Regional Programme CoordinationAdvisor at the Arab States Regional Office, providing essential support to the regional team. This role is pivotal in advancing programmatic coordination across all mandate areas of UNFPA. The intern will engage in a comprehensive work plan that outlines achievable milestones and learning opportunities, fostering a supportive environment through regular progress meetings. The position aims to enhance the intern's skills and capacity in alignment with UNFPA’s mission, focusing on areas such as sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, and population dynamics. The intern will contribute to various tasks, including program support, research, analysis, and administrative assistance, thereby gaining valuable insights into UNFPA’s operations and impact.
Duties and Responsibilities: As an Intern with the Programme Coordination Team, the intern will be responsible for a diverse range of tasks that significantly contribute to regional initiatives. Key responsibilities include:
Programme Support and Coordination: Compiling and organizing Country Programme Documents (CPDs) and related planning materials, reviewing programme documents for compliance, coordinating inputs from regional advisors and headquarters, and tracking the status of country programme development processes.
Research and Analysis: Conducting background research on UNFPA thematic areas, compiling and analyzing data for evidence-based programming, and preparing summaries and briefs for meetings.
Administrative and Logistical Support: Organizing online regional meetings, maintaining organized filing systems for programme documents, and assisting with logistical arrangements.
Knowledge Management and Communications: Documenting lessons learned and best practices, contributing to presentations and internal reports, and supporting the internal knowledge-sharing platform.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the internship, candidates must meet the following requirements:
Educational Requirements: Currently enrolled in a first university degree program (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) with at least one full academic year completed; enrolled in a postgraduate degree program; or recently graduated with a university degree and able to commence the internship within one year of graduation.
Other Eligibility Requirements: Demonstrated interest in programming and development, proficiency in written and spoken English, and the ability to adapt to new environments while maintaining positive working relationships with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Educational Background: Candidates should have an academic background in social work, development studies, political sciences, social sciences, conflict resolution, or public health. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of UNFPA’s work and the broader context of development and humanitarian efforts.
Experience: Some experience working in development, including volunteer capacity, is preferred. This experience will help the intern understand the operational dynamics of UNFPA and contribute effectively to the team. Strong analytical and writing skills are essential, along with initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to work harmoniously with staff from different national and cultural backgrounds.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of additional languages is considered an asset. This linguistic capability will enhance communication within the diverse UNFPA team and with external stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their living expenses, accommodation, travel, and other requirements. However, a stipend may be provided to help cover basic daily expenses if the intern is not financially supported by another institution. Interns must have medical insurance for the entire duration of the internship, and proof of insurance is required before starting.
