Job Overview: The Social MediaIntern position at UNRIC involves working under the direct supervision of the Digital Communications Assistant or Desk Officer. The internship is designed to provide practical experience in digital communications within the context of the United Nations. Interns will engage in various tasks that contribute to the promotion of UNRIC's mission and activities. The role requires a commitment to working full-time, five days a week, with the possibility of a hybrid or remote work arrangement. The internship is unpaid and lasts for an initial period of four months, with the potential for extension up to six months based on departmental needs and intern availability. Interns will be expected to assist in planning, creating, and curating content for social media, as well as monitoring and reporting on social media performance.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Social Media Intern include: using UNRIC Trello Boards for content planning; collecting and collating multimedia information; monitoring various sources for new content related to the UN; editing and subtitling news videos for social media channels; creating visuals and materials using online tools; attending press conferences and events to gather quotes and media; drafting posts for various social media platforms; researching trends and suggesting retweets/reposts; monitoring social media accounts for audience engagement; participating in live coverage of events; drafting monthly performance reports for social media accounts; and carrying out other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent) or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level). Additionally, applicants should be computer literate in standard software applications, demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Knowledge of graphic and video editing software is essential, and the ability to draft news articles or social media posts is desirable.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes enrollment in or completion of a graduate program or the final year of a bachelor's degree program. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of the UN's work and effectively contributing to the communications efforts of UNRIC.
Experience: While specific prior experience is not mandated, a demonstrated interest in communications, social media, or related fields is beneficial. Familiarity with digital content creation and engagement strategies will enhance the intern's ability to fulfill the role effectively.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is required for this position, as English is one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat.
