Job Overview: The Creative Arts Campaign Coordinator will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive online creative arts campaign that utilizes various artistic mediums to engage and educate the target audience about mental health issues. This role involves creating articles, graphics, art, and poetry, as well as participating in art judging for Open Calls. The coordinator will also assist with administrative tasks essential for maintaining high standards within the organization. The campaign aims to raise awareness of mental health, promote self-care, and highlight the benefits of art therapy, particularly for at-risk youth and child marriage survivors. The coordinator will work closely with international artists and contribute to the ongoing dialogue surrounding mental health, gender equality, and the empowerment of women and girls. The position also encourages retirees to apply, particularly for the Mentorship Outreach Program aimed at individuals aged 55 and above.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a creative arts campaign that raises awareness of mental health issues and promotes self-care through artistic expression.
Create and curate content, including articles, graphics, and videos, for various social media platforms to engage the audience.
Participate in the judging process for art submissions in the Open Calls and provide constructive feedback to artists.
Assist with administrative tasks related to the campaign and the overall functioning of the organization.
Collaborate with other art institutions and organizations to enhance the reach and impact of the campaign.
Facilitate online exhibitions and promote selected artworks through Simuka Africa's social media channels.
Encourage public participation in the campaign by inviting volunteers to submit their own artwork based on the themes of the Art Therapy Open Calls.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the campaign and make necessary adjustments to improve engagement and outreach.
Required Qualifications:
Strong background in creative arts, including visual arts, graphic design, or related fields.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex ideas in an accessible manner.
Experience in social media management and content creation, particularly for non-profit organizations.
Knowledge of mental health issues and a passion for advocacy related to mental health and gender equality.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people, including artists, volunteers, and community members.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Communications, Social Work, or a related field is preferred. Additional certifications or training in mental health advocacy, art therapy, or community outreach will be considered an asset.
Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in creative arts, social media management, or community outreach is required. Experience working with non-profit organizations or in mental health advocacy is highly desirable. Familiarity with the challenges faced by at-risk youth and marginalized communities will be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in Shona or Ndebele is a plus, as it will facilitate better communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is a volunteer role with flexible hours, allowing for part-time commitment. The organization is open to recruiting both nationally and internationally. The campaign will run throughout 2025, with opportunities for ongoing involvement in future initiatives. Compensation is not provided, but volunteers will gain valuable experience and contribute to meaningful social change.
