Job Overview:
The position of Junior Human Right Consultant is designed to support UNDP's initiatives in promoting and protecting human rights within Pakistan. The consultant will be responsible for providing expert advice and assistance in the implementation of human rights projects, ensuring compliance with international human rights standards. The role requires a deep understanding of human rights issues in the local context, as well as the ability to engage with various stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and international partners. The consultant will also be expected to contribute to capacity-building efforts and facilitate training sessions aimed at enhancing the understanding of human rights among local actors. This position is crucial for advancing UNDP's mission in Pakistan and ensuring that human rights are integrated into development strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research and analysis on human rights issues in Pakistan, identifying key challenges and opportunities for intervention.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of human rights projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with UNDP's strategic objectives.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including government officials, NGOs, and community leaders, to promote dialogue and collaboration on human rights issues.
  • Provide technical assistance and support in the design and delivery of training programs focused on human rights education and advocacy.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of human rights initiatives, providing recommendations for improvement and scaling successful interventions.
  • Prepare reports and documentation on project progress, challenges, and outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and conferences related to human rights, representing UNDP and contributing to discussions.

Required Qualifications:
  • A strong understanding of human rights principles and frameworks, particularly in the context of Pakistan.
  • Proven ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and facilitate discussions on sensitive topics.
  • Excellent analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and actionable recommendations.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with proficiency in report writing and presentation.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in law, political science, international relations, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an asset.

Experience:
At least 1-2 years of relevant experience in human rights, development, or related fields is required. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs is an advantage. Familiarity with the UN system and its human rights mechanisms is also beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in Urdu or other local languages is considered an asset and may enhance communication with local stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered as an individual contractor role, and the consultant will be expected to work on a part-time basis as per project requirements. The contract duration will be specified upon selection, and the consultant will be compensated based on the agreed terms.
