Job Overview:
The position of Individual Contractor for Urban Governance at UNDP involves providing expert advice and support in the area of urban governance. The contractor will be responsible for analyzing urban policies, facilitating stakeholder engagement, and developing strategies to enhance urban governance frameworks. This role requires a deep understanding of urban development issues, including planning, management, and governance structures. The contractor will work closely with local governments, civil society, and other stakeholders to promote inclusive and sustainable urban development. The assignment is expected to last for a period of 9 months, during which the contractor will contribute to the formulation and implementation of urban governance initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of urban governance frameworks and policies in the designated areas.
  • Facilitate workshops and meetings with stakeholders to gather input and foster collaboration on urban governance issues.
  • Develop strategic recommendations for improving urban governance practices and policies.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations on findings and recommendations for UNDP and stakeholders.
  • Support the implementation of urban governance initiatives by providing technical assistance and guidance.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of urban governance projects, ensuring alignment with UNDP objectives.
  • Engage with local communities to promote awareness and participation in urban governance processes.
  • Collaborate with other UN agencies and partners to leverage resources and expertise in urban governance.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven expertise in urban governance, urban planning, or related fields.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and implementation of urban development initiatives.
  • Familiarity with UNDP policies and procedures is an advantage.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Political Science, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in urban governance or development will be considered an asset.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in urban governance, policy analysis, or related areas is required. Experience working with international organizations or government agencies in urban development projects is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the project area is an advantage, as it will facilitate better communication with local stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered as a full-time contract for a duration of 9 months. The contractor will be expected to work closely with UNDP staff and partners, and may be required to travel within the country as part of the assignment. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and benefits may include health insurance and other allowances as per UNDP policies.
