Job Overview:
The Safety & security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Coordinator plays a crucial role within RI’s North Syria team, focusing on enhancing security management and contingency planning while fostering a robust safety culture among team members. This position involves ensuring that field staff are well-informed about RI's safety and security policies, identifying and analyzing risks to staff and assets, and proposing effective mitigation measures. The Coordinator is responsible for conducting security assessments, delivering briefings, and providing capacity-building initiatives related to security and safety topics. Additionally, the role supports humanitarian access through stakeholder engagement and analysis of operational access constraints, ensuring safe and effective program delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Safety & Security Coordinator will conduct regular visits to RI's operational areas to engage with field team members, analyze the operational context, and assess safety practices. They will provide operational guidance to ensure that RI’s safety and security standards are understood and adhered to by all staff. The Coordinator will monitor field movement processes, lead security assessments, and deliver safety briefings for new and existing staff. They will also support coordination with local stakeholders to facilitate operational access and contribute to the identification and monitoring of access constraints. The role includes reporting safety incidents, analyzing the operational context, maintaining security-related information products, and drafting incident reports. The Coordinator will manage the Security Guard team, provide training, and maintain professional relationships with relevant stakeholders to support information sharing and contextual awareness.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience related to safety and security. A minimum of 5 years of safety and security experience in the humanitarian sector is required, preferably in supervisory or leadership roles. Essential skills include excellent communication, negotiation, and diplomacy abilities, along with strong organizational, planning, and analytical skills. The ability to produce written documents such as briefing papers and incident reports is crucial. Fluency in Arabic and good spoken/written English are mandatory, along with good computer skills and experience with maps and databases.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject is essential for this position. Candidates with equivalent professional working experience related to safety and security may also be considered. The educational background should ideally include training or coursework related to humanitarian principles, safety management, or security analysis.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in safety and security within the humanitarian sector. Candidates should have experience in supervisory or leadership roles, demonstrating the ability to manage teams and coordinate safety protocols effectively. Familiarity with the security context in Idlib or Aleppo is highly desirable, along with experience in capacity-building and training.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic is mandatory, and candidates should also possess good spoken and written English skills. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required for this position.
