The Administrative Officer will also prepare written outputs related to programs and projects, provide support for meetings and conferences, and participate in field missions to offer operational guidance. Duties and Responsibilities: The Administrative Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
Participating in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs/projects, monitoring progress, and analyzing outcomes.
Reviewing documents and reports to ensure alignment with organizational priorities, identifying issues, and proposing corrective actions.
Providing operational and administrative coordination within the workstream, including verifying payment requests and managing travel arrangements.
Supporting the recruitment process and onboarding of consultants, as well as workspace planning.
Conducting research and analysis, preparing various written outputs such as background papers and analyses.
Providing substantive support for meetings and conferences, including agenda preparation and document drafting.
Participating in or leading field missions, providing operational support, and drafting mission summaries.
Coordinating budget and funding activities, preparing related documents and reports.
Performing other duties as required to support the OHCHR's mission and objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, project/programme management, economics, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. The position requires a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project planning, program management, administration, or a related area. Experience in human rights and social work is desirable, as is familiarity with results-based management.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, project/programme management, economics, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree, allowing for flexibility in educational qualifications while still ensuring that candidates have the necessary knowledge and skills for the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project planning and program management, administration, or a related area. Candidates with experience in human rights and social work will have an advantage, as will those familiar with results-based management practices. This level of experience is essential to ensure that the Administrative Officer can effectively contribute to the OHCHR's mission and handle the complexities of the role.
Languages: English is required for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is also a working language of the United Nations Secretariat, and while it is not mandatory for this position, proficiency in French may be considered an asset. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages can enhance collaboration within the organization and with external partners.
