Job Overview:
The Communication Intern will work under the direct supervision of the Chief of Communication at UNFPA Bangladesh. The primary role of the intern is to support the Communication Unit in planning and executing events and digital campaigns for significant observances such as International Youth Day and the International Day of the Girl Child. The intern will engage in a structured work-plan that includes setting achievements and learning opportunities throughout the internship. Regular progress meetings will be held to foster a beneficial learning environment, enhancing the intern's skills and capacity in areas related to UNFPA’s mission. The intern will play a crucial role in amplifying UNFPA’s advocacy on critical issues affecting youth, including gender equality, sexual and reproductive health, and rights, climate change, and youth leadership. This position is designed to strengthen UNFPA's connection with young people through innovative ideas and storytelling that resonate with youth audiences across various platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communication Intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks aimed at supporting the campaigns for International Youth Day and the International Day of the Girl Child. Key assignments include:
  • Supporting the development and implementation of communication and visibility plans for both campaigns.
  • Drafting social media content and key messages tailored for the campaigns.
  • Assisting in the creation of youth-centered storytelling products, such as human-interest stories, photo stories, reels, and short videos.
  • Coordinating with youth networks, young influencers, schools, universities, civil society organizations, and implementing partners to encourage campaign participation.
  • Organizing campaign events, youth dialogues, exhibitions, and activations in schools and universities.
  • Preparing communication materials, including invitations, banners, backdrop text, and visuals.
  • Conducting photo and video documentation during campaign events and field activities.
  • Supporting media outreach efforts and compiling media coverage reports.
  • Monitoring social media engagement and preparing analytics and summaries of campaign performance. 1
  • Identifying youth voices, advocates, and beneficiaries for storytelling and digital engagement. 1
  • Coordinating with designers, photographers, videographers, and vendors to meet campaign production needs. 1
  • Supporting post-event communication activities, including drafting web stories, recap posts, and impact summaries.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the internship, candidates must meet several educational and eligibility requirements. Interns must be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in fields such as Journalism, Media, Communication, International Relations, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or Gender Studies. For those pursuing a bachelor’s degree, they must have completed at least one full academic year. Alternatively, candidates who have recently graduated with a relevant degree must start the internship within one year of graduation. Additionally, candidates may be enrolled in a postgraduate professional trainee program and undertake the internship as part of this program. Other eligibility requirements include a demonstrated interest in development, proficiency in written and spoken English and Bangla, and the ability to adapt to new environments while maintaining good working relationships with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from a relevant degree program. This includes bachelor’s or master’s degree programs in Journalism, Media, Communication, International Relations, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or Gender Studies. For bachelor’s degree candidates, completion of one full academic year is required. If selected, recent graduates must start the internship within one year of graduation. Candidates may also be enrolled in a postgraduate professional trainee program and undertake the internship as part of this program.

Experience:
The internship is designed for individuals who are either currently enrolled in a relevant degree program or have recently graduated. While specific prior work experience is not mandatory, candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in the field of development and possess skills relevant to communication and media. The internship provides an opportunity for hands-on experience, making it suitable for those looking to gain practical knowledge and skills in advocacy and communication campaigns.

Languages:
Proficiency in both English and Bangla is mandatory for this position. Candidates must demonstrate strong written and spoken communication skills in these languages. While not explicitly required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in enhancing communication with diverse youth audiences.
