Job Overview: The Consultant for Private Sector Engagement will play a crucial role in implementing UN Women China’s private sector engagement strategy, which is aligned with the organization’s broader goals for gender equality and women’s empowerment. The Consultant will work under the guidance of the Head of Partnerships and will be responsible for collaborating with various program and functional teams to enhance private sector engagement and partnership building. This role includes significant responsibilities in resource mobilization and managing the national process for the 2026 Asia Pacific Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) Awards. The Consultant will be expected to support the office in achieving its strategic objectives by engaging with private sector organizations, facilitating partnerships, and ensuring effective communication and advocacy efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Consultant will undertake several key functions and activities, including but not limited to: supporting the national-level WEPs Awards process, providing timely FAQ support to companies applying from China, ensuring at least 50 WEPs Awards applications are received and scored, securing and onboarding a jury panel of external experts, selecting and notifying shortlisted companies, and developing a detailed workplan for the 2026 China WEPs Awards Ceremony. The Consultant will also be responsible for outreach to high-potential private sector organizations for strategic partnerships and resource mobilization opportunities, securing new sponsors for the awards ceremony, and completing the national-level WEPs Awards process, including post-event communications and lessons learned documentation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in Business, Business Administration, Economics, Public Policy, or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Additionally, candidates should have at least two years of work experience with private sector entities, particularly in strategy consulting, fundraising, marketing, public relations, resource mobilization, business development, or partnerships. Experience in designing and executing high-level events and engagements with private sector entities is also required, along with a strong understanding of gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as Business, Business Administration, Economics, or Public Policy. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by two additional years of relevant experience, demonstrating the candidate's capability to fulfill the role's responsibilities effectively.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant work experience, particularly in the private sector, with a focus on strategy consulting, fundraising, marketing, public relations, resource mobilization, and partnerships. Candidates should also have experience in managing senior private sector relationships in China and a background in gender equality and women's empowerment is considered an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in both English and Chinese is mandatory for this position, ensuring effective communication with diverse stakeholders and partners in the private sector.
Additional Notes: This consultancy is home-based, with the possibility of attending meetings at the UN Women Office in China. Regular update meetings with the Head of Partnerships are required, along with broader meetings with the program team and other UN agencies.
