This position will engage with various teams across the organization to facilitate the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the Foundation's operations. The role encompasses three interconnected workstreams: the AI Steering Committee secretariat, the Foundation's enterprise AI platform, and the FSO AI Learning Agenda. The specialist will be tasked with identifying transformative AI opportunities, developing use cases, and building systems that enhance the Foundation's operational efficiency and effectiveness. This limited-term position is set for 24 months and is based at the Foundation's headquarters in Seattle, Washington.
Duties and Responsibilities: The AI Transformation Specialist will be responsible for prototyping and iterating AI-enabled tools, such as copilots, agents, and workflow automations, ensuring that feedback loops and continuous improvement are integral to the development process. The specialist will identify high-leverage use cases, map workflows, and synthesize structured requirements to inform platform design and development prioritization. Additionally, the role involves defining reusable patterns for AI components that can be scaled across teams, collaborating with IT to ensure that solutions are production-ready. The specialist will also scope and structure complex work products for distributed execution, monitor the external AI landscape, and translate emerging developments into strategic implications for senior leadership. Conducting discovery sessions with FSO staff to understand their goals and workflows is essential, as is designing and facilitating learning experiences that enhance AI fluency within the division. The specialist will act as a player-coach, guiding staff in building their own solutions while also developing higher-complexity tools that require deeper systems thinking.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess hands-on experience in building AI-enabled workflows, automations, or tools, utilizing technologies such as LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini), no-code/low-code platforms (Zapier, Make, n8n), and enterprise AI platforms (Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex). A strong technical intuition is necessary to evaluate feasibility and make informed recommendations regarding build-vs-buy decisions. Familiarity with data infrastructure concepts is essential, as is deep experience in strategy consulting, business analysis, or product management. The ability to synthesize complex information and communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including senior executives, is crucial. Mastery in project management, data analysis, and visualization is also required, along with the ability to create persuasive narratives and insights from data.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as computer science, data science, business administration, or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in AI, machine learning, or related fields are preferred and may enhance a candidate's qualifications for this role.
Experience: Candidates should have significant experience in roles that involve structured problem-solving and synthesis across complex stakeholder environments. Experience in strategy consulting, business analysis, or product management is highly desirable, along with a proven track record of engaging with senior executives and board-level stakeholders. Familiarity with human-centered design or service design principles is a plus, as is experience in global health or international development sectors.
Languages: While no specific language requirements are mentioned, proficiency in English is mandatory due to the nature of the role and the need to communicate effectively with a diverse audience. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not explicitly required.
Additional Notes: This position is a limited-term role for 24 months, based in Seattle, Washington. The Foundation does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role, and candidates must have unrestricted work authorization in the country where the position is located. The salary range for this role is between $190,100 to $294,700 USD, with adjustments for high-wage market differences in Seattle and Washington D.C.
