Job Overview:
The Data and GIS Analyst position is crucial for the implementation of the Karamoja Sentinel project. This role is designed for an early-career analyst who is passionate about humanitarian analytics, GIS, AI-supported forecasting systems, and analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security analysis. The analyst will be responsible for various tasks including data preparation, GIS mapping, dashboard support, reporting, quality assurance, and coordination across different project workstreams. The position requires a proactive approach to support the project’s objectives through effective data management and analysis, ensuring that the information is accurate and accessible for decision-making processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Data and GIS Analyst will have a diverse set of responsibilities including: assisting with the cleaning, formatting, validation, and management of datasets from various sources; supporting the maintenance of project databases; conducting routine statistical analysis; ensuring data quality and documentation; producing GIS maps and spatial analysis products; managing geospatial layers related to Karamoja districts; preparing vulnerability overlays; updating Power BI/Tableau dashboards; generating automated reports; assisting in organizing workshops and training sessions; monitoring project activities; and coordinating with government counterparts and humanitarian partners. The analyst will also participate in field visits and data collection activities as needed, contributing to the overall success of the project.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, Information Management, Environmental Science, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of three to five years of relevant professional experience, particularly in data analysis, markets monitoring, GIS, or research activities. Exposure to humanitarian, development, agriculture, climate, or food security programs is highly desirable. Technical skills required include proficiency in Microsoft Excel, intermediate knowledge of ArcGIS or QGIS, familiarity with visualization tools like Tableau, and a basic understanding of data cleaning and analysis workflows. Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, SQL, or R is an advantage, along with an interest in AI and geospatial analytics.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as GIS, Geography, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, Information Management, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline. This foundational education is essential for understanding the complexities of data analysis and GIS mapping, which are critical components of the role.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a minimum of three to five years of relevant professional experience. This experience should ideally include supporting data analysis, markets monitoring, GIS, and research activities. Candidates with exposure to humanitarian, development, agriculture, climate, or food security programs will be given preference, as this background will enhance their ability to contribute effectively to the project.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. This proficiency is essential for effective communication within the team and with external stakeholders. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in a multicultural working environment.
