Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is situated within the Air Traffic Management (ATM) and Search and Rescue (SAR) section of the ICAO Eastern and Southern African Regional Office. The primary focus of this internship is to support the increased technical, analytical, and coordination workload related to the implementation of regional ATM and SAR programs. Interns will gain practical exposure to international civil aviation processes and contribute to the effective implementation of ICAO’s Strategic Goals related to Air Navigation Capacity and Efficiency. The role involves assisting in various activities such as technical meetings, workshops, and data collection, which are crucial for the successful implementation of air navigation services across the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks aimed at supporting the implementation of regional air navigation and operational efficiency activities. Key responsibilities include: assisting in the preparation of technical briefs, working papers, reports, and presentations; compiling, maintaining, and analyzing operational performance data; monitoring and following up on actions from regional meetings; coordinating and tracking regional SAR activities; reviewing SAR contingency plans and exercise reports; identifying and analyzing implementation gaps in SAR systems; drafting meeting summaries and technical records; maintaining electronic records and databases; collecting and analyzing operational and safety-related data; preparing periodic progress reports; and engaging with civil aviation authorities and stakeholders to facilitate the implementation of regional priorities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed or be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in a relevant field such as Aeronautical Engineering, Aviation, Air Transport Management, Aviation Safety Management, Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Geographic Information Systems, or Transport and Logistics Management. While no prior work experience is required, relevant academic training or skills that can benefit the ICAO ESAF Region are advantageous.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this internship includes being enrolled in or having completed a bachelor’s degree program in a field related to aviation or engineering. This could include disciplines such as Aeronautical Engineering, Aviation Management, or Geographic Information Systems, among others. The focus is on candidates who can apply their academic knowledge to real-world aviation challenges.

Experience:
This internship does not require prior work experience, making it an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain practical experience in the field of air traffic management and search and rescue operations. However, any relevant academic coursework or skills that align with the responsibilities of the internship will be considered beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is essential, with strong reading, writing, and speaking abilities required. A working knowledge of French, which is a second language of the Organization, is desirable but not mandatory.

Additional Notes:
The internship is a full-time position lasting six months, with interns expected to work five days a week. Interns will receive a stipend, but they are responsible for all costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses. During the internship, interns are not permitted to engage in any other form of employment within ICAO. They are expected to perform their duties with loyalty and discretion, adhering to the official instructions of the Organization.
