Job Overview: The ERT WASHCoordinator is tasked with conducting rapid needs assessments and prioritizing urgent WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) and multi-sectorial needs of affected populations. This role involves managing the design, implementation, and coordination of emergency WASH interventions, as well as interventions in other sectors based on identified needs. The coordinator will work closely with the Emergency Response Team (ERT) to assess the situation on the ground, define response objectives, and develop appropriate strategies that reflect local conditions and cultural norms. The position requires a proactive approach to emergency response management, ensuring compliance with technical standards and donor requirements while also integrating considerations for protection, gender, and sustainability into program design.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct emergency assessments by collaborating with the SI Emergency Response Team, stakeholders, and affected populations to identify priorities and required resources. Prepare for assessments through desk reviews and drafting Terms of Reference (ToR). Analyze data and produce comprehensive assessment reports. Participate in relevant cluster and coordination meetings at both HQ and field levels. Assess in-country response capacities with relevant actors and contribute to the identification and capacity building of local partners.
Define response objectives and work plans with ERT members, designing emergency responses based on identified needs and local capacities. Develop sectoral strategies and select suitable intervention modalities. Ensure activities are context-appropriate and reflect local customs. Integrate protection, gender, and environmental considerations into program design. Support the development of concept notes, proposals, budgets, and donor submissions, and participate in donor negotiations as needed.
Plan and manage multi-sector emergency programs in coordination with HQ, field teams, NGOs, UN agencies, communities, and authorities. Identify supply needs and coordinate logistics to ensure timely delivery. Recruit, train, and build the capacity of local and emergency response teams. Oversee implementation and ensure compliance with SI technical standards and donor requirements. Establish monitoring and evaluation systems.
Provide regular updates on project progress and operational challenges, ensuring timely submission of donor reports. Represent SI in coordination forums and meetings with NGOs, UN agencies, and government counterparts. Prepare handover and mission reports to ensure continuity of interventions.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field. A minimum of two years of experience working as a Country WASH Coordinator or in a similar position is required. Experience with Solidarités International is highly desirable, along with proven experience in implementing emergency response activities. Candidates should have a solid understanding of the humanitarian coordination structure and technical indicators for response concerning Sphere and other standards. Strong skills in managing multiple departments under pressure, autonomy, proactivity, and effective communication (both internal and external) are essential.
Educational Background: The position requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field, which provides the foundational knowledge necessary for effective performance in the role. This educational background should ideally include studies related to water, sanitation, hygiene, public health, or humanitarian response, equipping the candidate with the theoretical and practical skills needed to address the challenges faced in emergency situations.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least two years of experience in a similar role, specifically as a Country WASH Coordinator or equivalent. This experience should include a strong background in emergency response activities, demonstrating the ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments and manage complex projects. Familiarity with the operational context of Solidarités International and the humanitarian sector is highly advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in French is a strong asset for this position, as it is essential for communication with local partners and stakeholders. Proficiency in English is also beneficial, particularly for reporting and coordination with international teams and donors. Additional language skills relevant to the local context may be considered an advantage.

The role is based in Port-au-Prince and various locations in Haiti. The compensation package includes a starting salary of EUR 2860 gross per month, which consists of a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly Per Diem of USD 750 is provided, along with coverage for accommodation and travel expenses. The organization implements a work-break system, allowing for breaks every three months, and provides a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses and essential vaccinations. Living conditions in Port-au-Prince include satisfactory accommodation and access to essential services.
