Job Overview: The intern position at UN Women is designed to support the Independent Evaluation Service (IES) in its evaluative work, particularly in the Asia and Pacific region. The intern will assist in various preparatory and research tasks related to ongoing and upcoming evaluations, contributing to the organization's mission of promoting gender equality and women's empowerment. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into the evaluation processes within an international organization and to understand the implementation of gender equality programs. The intern will work closely with the Regional Evaluation Specialist and will be involved in data collection, analysis, and the development of evaluation-related materials. The position aims to enhance the intern's understanding of UN Women’s work and the broader UN system, while also providing networking opportunities within the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a range of tasks, including but not limited to: conducting preparatory and research work for evaluations, assisting with data collection and background research, managing the repository of evaluation documents, analyzing preliminary data, and building evaluation portfolios. The intern will also assist in stakeholder analysis, review inception and draft reports for accuracy, and update the UN Women Evaluation database and knowledge management systems. Additionally, the intern will help develop knowledge and communication products related to evaluations, support gender-responsive evaluation capacity building, and undertake any other relevant tasks as requested by the Independent Evaluation Service.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong research skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage and synthesize large amounts of information. Creativity and technological awareness are also essential. The intern should be capable of working collaboratively in groups for data collection and project development, and should have some training or involvement in monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and results-based management (RBM) activities.
Educational Background: Applicants must have university studies in disciplines such as social science, gender issues, evaluation, political science, political economy, public administration, international development, or other relevant subjects. Candidates must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program, be in the final academic year of a first university degree program, be enrolled in a mandatory national service program, or have recently graduated with a university degree and must start the internship within two years of graduation.
Experience: The position is suitable for candidates who are either currently enrolled in relevant academic programs or have recently graduated. Previous experience in research, evaluation, or gender-related work is advantageous but not strictly required. The focus is on candidates who are eager to learn and contribute to the mission of UN Women.
Languages: Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral, are required. Knowledge of another UN language is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage in a multicultural work environment.
Additional Notes: The internship is designed to provide a stipend to interns who are not receiving financial support from other sources. Interns are expected to provide proof of enrollment in a valid health insurance plan, proof of school enrollment or degree, a scanned copy of their passport or national ID, and a copy of a valid visa if applicable.
