Job Overview:
The Information Management Assistant (GIS) position is located within the Information Management Unit of OCHA's Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (OCHA ROAP) in Bangkok, Thailand. The role is crucial in supporting the day-to-day activities of the Information Management Unit, particularly during emergencies, whether they are sudden-onset or corporate humanitarian responses. The incumbent will provide essential information management support and contribute to preparedness activities. Reporting directly to the Regional Information Management Officer, the incumbent will be involved in delivering geospatial data analysis, maintaining operational datasets, and producing high-quality map products and online services. This position requires a proactive approach to managing information and ensuring that data is accessible and useful for humanitarian partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Information Management Assistant (GIS) include delivering geospatial data analysis that integrates baseline and operational information according to relevant standards and guidelines. The incumbent will support the production and updating of high-quality map products and online services. Responsibilities also include maintaining repositories of Common Operational Datasets (CODs) and thematic datasets, ensuring they are well-documented and accessible to humanitarian partners. The role involves creating and maintaining geospatial databases, supporting data modeling, disaster impacts, and exposure analysis. The incumbent will design and develop reference and thematic maps, undertake the development and maintenance of online GIS portals and dashboards, and coordinate geospatial data requests and analysis activities. Additionally, the position requires the production of information products such as maps, infographics, and reports, as well as contributing to needs assessments and analysis processes. The incumbent will also develop guidance materials and deliver training to partners on geospatial analysis and tools.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. A first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of two years of required experience. The candidate must possess a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in geographic information systems, data analysis, mapping, data visualization, information management, or related areas. If the candidate has a first-level university degree, a minimum of five years of experience is required. At least three years of experience using GIS software such as ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, or QGIS, as well as Business Intelligence tools like Power BI, is essential. Experience in data analysis and GIS within the humanitarian field in the Asia-Pacific region is also required, along with desirable experience in database development and maintenance of GIS systems related to emergency preparedness and response.

Educational Background:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. However, a first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of two years of required experience, indicating that higher education can compensate for a lack of extensive work experience in the field.

Experience:
The position demands a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in relevant fields such as geographic information systems, data analysis, mapping, and information management. If the candidate holds a first-level university degree, a minimum of five years of experience is acceptable. The role also requires at least three years of experience using GIS software and Business Intelligence tools to support decision-making processes. Additionally, at least one year of experience in data analysis and GIS within the humanitarian context in the Asia-Pacific region is necessary, with further desirable experience in database development and maintenance of GIS systems for emergency preparedness and response.

Fluency in English and Thai is required for this position, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
