Job Overview: The AI Platform Engineer position is a critical role within the IRC's IT department, focusing on the technical operations of the organization's enterprise AI systems. This position is not user-facing; instead, it is centered on maintaining the reliability, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and effectiveness of AI platforms such as Anthropic and OpenAI. The engineer will manage platform configurations, API access, and integrations between AI tools and IRC systems. The role requires a proactive approach to troubleshooting, monitoring system health, and ensuring that the AI environment is optimized for performance. The AI Platform Engineer will work closely with the AI Platform director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Support Director and other technical teams to ensure that the AI systems are well-integrated with the IRC's broader operational environment. This position is essential for supporting the IRC's mission to leverage AI technology to enhance program delivery and operational efficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities: The AI Platform Engineer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
AI Systems Administration & Operations (40%): - Serve as the primary technical administrator for IRC's enterprise AI environments, managing user access, API key governance, and workspace configurations. - Monitor system health and performance, triaging operational issues as they arise. - Maintain observability across AI systems, tracking uptime, error rates, and integration reliability. - Document configuration changes and support responsible usage by coordinating with InfoSec on policy adherence.
Integrations & Technical Implementation (35%): - Collaborate with DevOps and engineering teams on deployment processes and infrastructure dependencies. - Develop scripts and automations to support AI-assisted workflows, primarily using Python and/or JavaScript. - Troubleshoot integration failures and collaborate with data engineering on AI pipeline work. - Maintain technical documentation for all integrations, including architecture notes and runbooks.
Monitoring, Resource Optimization & InfoSec Liaison (15%): - Track AI resource utilization and identify opportunities for cost efficiency. - Serve as the technical point of contact with the InfoSec team regarding AI system security and compliance. - Contribute to the development of technical SOPs for AI system use.
Stakeholder Support & Collaboration (10%): - Act as a technical resource for program teams adopting AI tools, providing support and troubleshooting assistance. - Participate in rollout planning for new AI capabilities and contribute to project planning with accurate estimates on technical effort.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the AI Platform Engineer position will possess a robust set of qualifications, including: - Hands-on experience administering enterprise AI platforms such as Anthropic and OpenAI, with a strong understanding of API management and environment configuration. - Familiarity with LLM application infrastructure and experience with data/ML platforms like Databricks is a plus. - Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript for scripting and automation tasks. - Experience building and maintaining REST API integrations, with a solid understanding of authentication patterns and error management. - Comfort operating in live production environments and familiarity with monitoring distributed systems or SaaS platforms. - A working knowledge of information security principles as they apply to SaaS and API-based systems, with the ability to engage constructively with InfoSec teams.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a strong educational background in a relevant field, such as computer science, information technology, or a related discipline. A bachelor's degree is typically required, while a master's degree or equivalent experience may be preferred. Continuous learning and professional development in AI and cloud technologies will be advantageous.
Experience: The position requires a significant level of experience, ideally with at least 3-5 years in a technical operations role focused on AI systems or cloud platforms. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing enterprise-level systems and integrations, as well as experience in troubleshooting and optimizing technical environments.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the IRC. Additional language skills may be beneficial, particularly in regions where the IRC operates, but are not required.

The compensation for this role varies based on location, with a pay rate of $88,277-102,451 USD for US-based candidates and £49,598-60,040 GBP for UK-based candidates.
