The IIIM was established to support accountability for serious crimes committed in Syria and operates under the auspices of the United Nations. The organization aims to gather evidence, prepare files for prosecution, and assist in the investigation of these crimes. The IIIM is based in Geneva, Switzerland, and works with various stakeholders to ensure justice and accountability for victims of serious crimes. Job Overview:
The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Information Analyst Internship is designed to provide support to the IIIM's Operational Support Section (OSS) and Security Coordination Office (SCO). The intern will play a crucial role in enhancing the Mechanism's understanding of the security environment in Syria and its implications for personnel safety. This internship is unpaid and requires full-time commitment, with a duration of approximately 6 months. The intern will be expected to conduct research, monitor security developments, and assist in the preparation of Security Threat and Risk Assessments (STRA). The position offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in security analysis within an international organization, contributing to the safety of individuals cooperating with the Mechanism.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: conducting targeted open-source research and analytical assessments related to security developments; monitoring and maintaining situational awareness regarding political, security, economic, social, and technological developments; researching, compiling, and summarizing relevant information related to the evolving security environment in Syria; supporting the preparation, review, and updating of Security Threat and Risk Assessments (STRA); assisting in identifying trends, patterns, and potential security implications through analytical reporting; preparing analytical summaries, briefing materials, and presentations for internal use; contributing to periodic updates and presentations related to STRA findings and recommendations; ensuring confidentiality and secure handling of all information accessed during the internship; completing assigned tasks accurately and within established deadlines; and working effectively both independently and collaboratively within a multicultural team environment.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Candidates must be pursuing or have pursued their degree in areas related to this internship, such as Security Studies, Political Science, International Relations, Intelligence Studies, Conflict Studies, International Security, or Criminology. Other closely related disciplines may also be considered. While professional work experience is not required, a relevant field of study is essential. Desirable qualifications include strong analytical and research skills, familiarity with open-source research methodologies, and the ability to synthesize complex information into concise analytical products.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a background in fields related to security and international relations. This includes, but is not limited to, Security Studies, Political Science, International Relations, Intelligence Studies, Conflict Studies, International Security, or Criminology. A graduate degree or a final year of undergraduate study is required, and applicants must provide an official certificate confirming their academic status.

Experience:
While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. The focus is on candidates who have a strong understanding of security issues and analytical skills, which can be developed through academic projects or research.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also necessary, as it is the other working language. Additionally, knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, given the context of the internship and the focus on the Syrian Arab Republic.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid, and candidates are responsible for all related expenses, including travel, visas, accommodation, and living costs. Interns must keep all information obtained during the internship confidential and are not permitted to publish any reports or papers based on such information without explicit authorization. The internship is expected to last between 3 to 6 months, with flexible arrangements possible. Candidates must also be aware that there is no expectation of employment with the United Nations or IIIM upon completion of the internship.
