Job Overview:
The Public intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Information Intern position is designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience within the Executive Office of the IIMP. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Public Information Officer or their designated representative, gaining hands-on experience in public information and communication strategies related to the IIMP's mission. The role involves collaborating with colleagues across the institution to develop and disseminate various public information products and communication activities that align with the IIMP's priorities. The intern will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of tasks that enhance their understanding of public information work within an international organization, while also contributing to the visibility and outreach of the IIMP's initiatives. This internship is particularly suited for individuals who are passionate about human rights, communication, and the role of the United Nations in addressing global issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include a diverse range of tasks aimed at supporting the IIMP's public information efforts. Key duties will involve: (1) Assisting in the drafting, editing, and publishing of content for the IIMP's social media platforms, including X, Facebook, and LinkedIn, to enhance the institution's online presence; (2) Creating visual and multimedia content, such as graphics, short videos, and photo-editing materials, to effectively communicate the IIMP's messages; (3) Drafting social media posts, website updates, and other communication materials in English and/or Arabic to ensure accessibility and engagement with a wider audience; (4) Supporting the coverage of events, meetings, and outreach activities through photography and videography, as well as preparing timely social media updates; (5) Maintaining content calendars and organizing, archiving, and managing photographs, videos, and other communication materials to ensure efficient access and use; (6) Engaging in other public information and communication activities as required, demonstrating professionalism, creativity, and discretion throughout the internship; (7) Upholding confidentiality regarding records and information accessed during the internship, and maintaining a respectful and inclusive approach when interacting with colleagues and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be currently enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be currently enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not a requirement for the UN Internship Programme, candidates should possess a field of study that is closely related to the internship they are applying for. Additionally, experience in managing social media platforms and creating digital communication content for organizations or institutions is highly desirable. Familiarity with graphic design, photography, videography, or the use of content creation tools will also be advantageous for applicants.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes either enrollment in or completion of a graduate program or the final year of a bachelor's degree program. Candidates should have a strong academic foundation in fields related to communication, public relations, international relations, or other relevant disciplines that align with the responsibilities of the internship. This educational background will provide the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively contribute to the IIMP's public information efforts and engage with the institution's mission.

Experience:
While the UN Internship Programme does not mandate professional work experience, candidates are encouraged to have relevant academic or practical experience in fields related to communication, public relations, or digital media. Experience in managing social media platforms and creating content for digital communication is particularly valuable. Additionally, familiarity with graphic design and multimedia production will enhance the intern's ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this internship, as English is one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat. Knowledge of Arabic is considered desirable, as it aligns with the IIMP's focus on the Syrian context and enhances communication with affected communities. Proficiency in French is also beneficial, given that it is another working language of the UN, allowing for broader engagement with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
Interns at the United Nations are not financially compensated for their work. Therefore, candidates should be prepared to cover their own costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses during the internship period. The expected duration of the internship is between 3 to 6 months, and while the position is primarily in-person and full-time, applications from individuals unable to travel to Geneva are also welcomed. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Switzerland may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization before starting the internship. It is important for successful candidates to discuss their specific visa requirements prior to accepting the internship offer. Furthermore, it is emphasized that the United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process, ensuring a fair and transparent selection process.
