Job Overview:
The Data Analyst position is focused on enhancing the use of evidence in national SDG reporting and improving the communication of SDG data through the creation of clear, concise, and professionally designed dashboards. The role involves analyzing SDG data and developing statistical charts and dashboards to assess national progress towards the SDGs. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the head of the Statistical Data Management Unit (SDMU) within the Statistics Division of ESCAP. This position is crucial for supporting countries in preparing for their Voluntary National Review in 2027, ensuring that they have the necessary tools and methodologies to effectively track and report on their SDG progress.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Data Analyst include sourcing, processing, and analyzing the latest SDG data in accordance with the methodologies established by the Statistics Division. The analyst will also participate in the development of innovative methodologies to track SDG progress using data science techniques. Additionally, the role requires the creation of dashboards that effectively present data and trends for SDG exploration and analysis. The Data Analyst will contribute to the development of knowledge products that support stakeholder engagement and facilitate regional and sub-regional dialogues on SDG implementation, such as the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD).

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent as a minimum qualification. A university degree or higher education in communication technology, with a specialization in data science and/or data visualization, is considered an asset. Candidates must have experience in data visualization and developing graphic designs for online publication. Experience within the UN system is advantageous, as it demonstrates familiarity with the organization's processes and objectives.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent. A university degree or higher education in fields related to communication technology, data science, or data visualization is preferred and would enhance a candidate's suitability for the role. This educational background is essential for understanding the technical aspects of data analysis and visualization required for the position.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have relevant experience in data visualization and graphic design, particularly for online publications. This experience is crucial for effectively presenting complex data in an accessible and engaging manner. Additionally, having experience within the UN system is beneficial, as it provides insight into the organization's operations and the context in which the Data Analyst will be working.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary working language of the United Nations. Knowledge of another UN official language is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders and enhance collaboration within the organization.
