Job Overview:
The Communications, Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement Specialist plays a crucial role in leading and implementing the communications strategy for the Women's Economic Empowerment (WEE) portfolio within UN Women. This position requires strategic leadership in communications, advocacy, digital engagement, and stakeholder outreach, ensuring alignment with the organization's overall communications strategy and priorities. The incumbent will work closely with various teams, including the Regional Communications Unit and Country Offices, to enhance the visibility and influence of WEE initiatives across Asia and the Pacific. The role involves mentoring the WEE communications team, providing quality assurance for communication products, and driving digital transformation through innovative approaches. The specialist will also be responsible for developing social media and digital advocacy strategies, ensuring coherent narratives and messaging that resonate with key stakeholders, donors, and partners. This position is vital for strengthening the impact of WEE initiatives and ensuring that women's economic empowerment remains a priority in regional and global discussions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead and guide the overall WEE communications strategy and implementation of the annual communications workplan, ensuring alignment with the central ROAP Communications Strategy and global organizational priorities.
  • Mentor and strengthen the capacity of the WEE communications team by establishing streamlined workflows and fostering professional development.
  • Act as a strategic advisor to the WEE leadership team on communication, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement matters.
  • Provide quality assurance across all communication-related products to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Accelerate WEE digital transformation by deploying AI-powered workflows and optimizing stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Develop WEE social media and digital advocacy strategies, providing strategic direction on narrative positioning and engagement metrics.
  • Serve as the primary strategic focal point with the ROAP Communications unit and HQ, ensuring effective prioritization of communications opportunities.
  • Drive the conceptualization and strategic direction of regional campaigns, coordinating with Country Office leads.
  • Lead communication, advocacy, and partnership support across the WEE portfolio, focusing on priority programmes. 1
  • Establish strategic communications approaches for flagship WEE initiatives, ensuring alignment with programme objectives and partnership development. 1
  • Monitor communications performance and promote knowledge sharing across the WEE portfolio. 1
  • Provide day-to-day technical supervision and guidance to communications personnel and interns supporting the WEE portfolio.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in communications, journalism, international relations, public policy, political science, digital media, development studies, or a related field is required.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in strategic communications, advocacy, public information, digital communications, media relations, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience providing strategic communications advice to senior leadership and leading initiatives at regional or international levels.
  • Experience working with international organizations, development institutions, or private sector partners is desirable.
  • Knowledge of gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, and human rights issues is desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as communications, journalism, international relations, public policy, political science, digital media, or development studies. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
The position requires at least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in strategic communications, advocacy, public information, digital communications, media relations, or related fields. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in providing strategic communications advice to senior leadership and leading initiatives at regional, multi-country, or international levels. Experience working with international organizations, development institutions, governments, or private sector partners is highly desirable, as is familiarity with applying AI-enabled tools and innovative digital approaches within strategic communications and advocacy functions.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Thai is required, with excellent written and verbal communication skills in both languages. Knowledge of another official UN language (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is desirable, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and audiences.
