Job Overview:
The Security Coordination Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of IIIM staff, offices, and field operations. This position requires a proactive approach to security management, including the analysis of security threats and the development of risk management strategies. The officer will coordinate security operations, investigate incidents, and deliver training to enhance the safety of personnel and assets. The role involves liaising with local authorities and other agencies to implement security plans and provide advice on security matters across all program areas. The incumbent will be responsible for forecasting the evolving security environment and ensuring that the UN's security and operational responses are effective and timely. This position demands a high level of professionalism, analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to ensure a secure working environment for all IIIM personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Security Coordination Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including serving as an adviser to the Head of the Mechanism on security risk management matters, participating in the Security Management Team, and ensuring the development of inclusive risk management strategies. The officer will conduct security surveys and assessments, prepare and implement security planning documents, and provide written analysis of security trends. Additionally, the officer will oversee security-related projects, monitor compliance with security policies, and enhance communication and trust through collaboration with UN system organizations and other stakeholders. The role also involves leading and managing the security team, conducting budget and logistical planning for the security office, and ensuring the implementation of gender, diversity, and inclusion approaches in security risk management. The officer will collect and analyze data to identify trends and provide insights for decision-making and reporting.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a solid background in security management, with knowledge of military, law enforcement, or other security specializations. The ability to analyze and interpret data to support decision-making is essential, as is the capacity to deal effectively with stress factors encountered in security management. The officer should demonstrate respect and sensitivity towards diversity and contribute to an environment where all personnel can communicate openly. Effective interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to implement policies are critical for success in this role. Candidates should also exhibit strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple high-level projects in a timely manner.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, political/social science, psychology, criminal justice, law, international relations, security management, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a relevant first-level university degree combined with two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A first-level university degree may also be substituted with a diploma from a police or military education institution obtained over a minimum of three years. Successful completion of degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is desirable, enhancing the candidate's qualifications for this role.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in security, conflict resolution, crime or terrorism prevention, risk or disaster management, and preparedness in both public and private sectors. At least two years of experience in field operations is required, along with relevant work experience in the Middle East. Security-related experience in tribunals, justice, or accountability mechanisms is also required. Experience with security frameworks in the context of evidence collection work, contingency planning, and crisis management is desirable. Additionally, two or more years of experience in data analytics or a related area is preferred.

Languages:
The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. For this position, proficiency in English and Arabic is required, while knowledge of French is desirable. Candidates should consult the UN Language Framework for details on the minimum required level for each skill in these languages.
