Job Overview: The Advocacy & Communications Manager will play a pivotal role in leading and directing NRC's policy, communication, and advocacy efforts in Bangladesh. This position is crucial for identifying protection concerns that require advocacy and ensuring these issues are integrated into NRC's operational activities. The role holder will focus on significant issues such as the Rohingya crisis and climate-related displacement, working closely with regional and country missions to enhance advocacy initiatives. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate strong leadership, strategic thinking, and excellent communication skills, as well as a solid understanding of humanitarian principles and protection issues.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Advocacy & Communications Manager will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: managing the performance and development of team members, conducting humanitarian and protection analysis to inform advocacy strategies, developing and implementing advocacy strategies, ensuring coherence between advocacy efforts and programmatic activities, providing advocacy training and capacity building, and coordinating the strategic delivery of advocacy messaging to maximize impact. The role also involves advising on media strategies, assessing potential risks, and representing NRC in advocacy networks to promote the organization's position effectively.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of protection principles and advocacy, as well as international legal and policy processes related to forced displacement and migration. They should have experience in analysis, messaging, coordination, and networking, along with exceptional managerial and interpersonal skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is an understanding of the refugee and internal displacement context in Bangladesh. Experience working in complex and volatile environments, particularly with displacement-affected populations, is also required.
Educational Background: An advanced degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field is required for this position. Candidates should have a strong academic background that supports their understanding of humanitarian issues, advocacy, and communication strategies.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have significant experience in advocacy, communications, and humanitarian work, particularly in contexts involving forced displacement and climate-related challenges. Experience in managing teams and leading advocacy initiatives is essential, as well as a proven track record of working effectively in challenging environments.
Languages: Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory for this role. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the local context may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, with a contract duration of 12 months, subject to extension based on performance, requirements, and funding availability.
