Job Overview:
The Volunteer Promotion Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the youth fellowship programme and youth volunteerism framework under the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts (MYSA). This position involves coordinating youth activities with various stakeholders, including line ministries, partners, and UN agencies, to enhance youth engagement and volunteerism. The assistant will also contribute to the International Volunteer Year 2026 National Action Plan and assist in identifying existing youth volunteer initiatives. The role requires collaboration with the Zambia Volunteers Coordinating Committee to design outreach strategies that promote youth volunteerism at both national and community levels. The assistant will support the organization of volunteer-related events, campaigns, and capacity-building workshops, while also documenting impact stories and maintaining a database of youth volunteers and partner organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Volunteer Promotion Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Support the implementation of the youth fellowship programme and youth volunteerism framework, including youth and arts initiatives under MYSA.
  • Assist in the execution of the International Volunteer Year 2026 National Action Plan.
  • Coordinate youth activities with line ministries, partners, and UN agencies to ensure effective collaboration.
  • Identify and map existing youth volunteer initiatives, networks, and opportunities across various sectors.
  • Collaborate with the Zambia Volunteers Coordinating Committee to design outreach strategies that promote youth volunteerism at national and community levels.
  • Organize volunteer-related events, campaigns, and capacity-building workshops to enhance youth engagement.
  • Document and share impact stories, case studies, and best practices in youth volunteering.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of youth volunteers and partner organizations engaged in volunteer activities.
  • Work with communications staff to promote volunteerism through digital and traditional media channels. 1
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for volunteer engagement activities. 1
  • Support the integration of volunteerism in youth and arts events. 1
  • Promote volunteerism in universities, secondary and primary schools, and communities. 1
  • Perform any other duties as assigned to support the effective implementation of the youth volunteerism agenda.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. A demonstrated commitment to youth development and volunteerism is essential. The ideal candidate should be adaptable, creative, and capable of making sound judgments and decisions. Professionalism and self-management are also critical attributes for this role.

Educational Background:
A degree in social sciences, development studies, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with relevant certifications or training in youth development, volunteer management, or community engagement will be considered favorably.

Experience:
The position requires prior experience in youth development, volunteer management, or related fields. Candidates should have a proven track record of working with youth and community organizations, as well as experience in organizing events and workshops. Familiarity with the challenges faced by youth in Zambia and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and the country. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Zambia would be an advantage, as it would facilitate better engagement with youth and communities.

This position is a volunteer role, and while it may not offer a salary, it provides valuable experience and the opportunity to contribute to meaningful youth development initiatives.
