Job Overview: The Field Monitoring Assistant (FMA) plays a crucial role in the effective delivery of WFP’s assistance packages by conducting monitoring activities in the field, sub, or area office. Reporting to the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer, the FMA is responsible for ensuring that the distribution of food and non-food items aligns with WFP standards. This position requires active participation in the development of M&E plans and the collection of data to support program reviews and decision-making. The FMA will also engage with cooperating partners to gather feedback and contribute to the continuous improvement of services. This role is essential for maintaining accurate monitoring records and documentation, which are vital for achieving WFP's objectives and ensuring accountability in operations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Field Monitoring Assistant will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: conducting field monitoring activities to verify the planned movements and distribution of food and non-food items, reporting any issues, incidents, or risks encountered during monitoring; performing food basket monitoring to ensure compliance with WFP standards regarding the quantity and quality of assistance distributed; maintaining up-to-date records and documentation related to monitoring activities; actively participating in the development and implementation of Sub Office M&E plans; collating assistance data to support program reviews; liaising with cooperating partners and internal counterparts to gather feedback; contributing to the regular updates of M&E tools; supporting capacity-building initiatives for partners on WFP operational practices; preparing detailed field mission reports; following emergency response processes for food assistance; and performing any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a completion of secondary school education or a diploma/post-graduate certificate in relevant fields such as statistics, economics, international affairs, business administration, social sciences, or development. Additionally, candidates should have a strong understanding of monitoring and evaluation systems, as well as proficiency in using office equipment and computer software packages, particularly Microsoft Word. The ability to work independently with minimal supervision is also essential.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes at least a secondary school education, with a preference for candidates holding a diploma or post-graduate certificate in disciplines related to statistics, economics, international affairs, business administration, social sciences, or development. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of monitoring and evaluation in humanitarian contexts.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of four years of progressively responsible work experience in analyzing program output and outcome data, as well as reporting on these findings. Experience in monitoring and evaluation systems is desirable, as it will enable the candidate to effectively contribute to the M&E activities of WFP.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in Afarigna is also required. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders in the field.
Additional Notes: This position is offered as a Service Contract at Level 4, with a duration of 12 months. It is open to Ethiopian nationals only.
